rioting in the name of a cause....
go ahead and sit at your computer desk and watch the carnage unfolding. go ahead and sit on your couch in your secure living room and watch the fires burn. tell yourself that this all makes sense. tell yourself that they had no other choice. tell yourself that this is how you get the attention of those in power.
now stop. really look at what is going on. are really protesting the senseless death of an innocent man by stealing? how is taking those flat screen tv’s going to help people pay attention to the senseless violence? how is tearing a store apart telling this mans story? how is making the businesses around you shutter their doors and windows with wood so they don’t get broken telling the community they should stand behind your cause? how is burning down buildings in anger telling the people in charge to charge the bad guys with a crime?? how is any of this helping anyone?
its not. now the mother who lives in low income housing that shopped at the store that burned down has no where else to go. how will she get food? now the senior citizen that has been getting their medicine from the same place for years can no longer do that cause it is closed until further notice. now the dad whose kids cry at night because of what happened to that man are crying because they have a whole new level of fear. they no longer have to fear the monster under the bed because you have let the people around you become just that. the kids are scared that the fires and looting will reach their house and they will be in danger not just from the big scary cops but also the people they thought they knew. this is insane. this is not something anyone should endorse or say needs to happen.
i look out my window and see it is peaceful for the moment. that the trees are calm and the wind quiet. but on the horizon i fear there will be more things to worry about.
