like seriously though i came into this fandom already knowing about the ‘i love you’, and you’d think that’s about as gay as it gets, but no! like sure it was a HUGE woahhhh moment, but put the whole show into perspective and like, everything man….. everything.

oh i LOVED IT. 

like, leaving the rest of the movie aside (which i think more people agree on that it’s pretty much amazing), as a creator i just THRIVE with the openness of it all and the messy, complicated potential consequences of time travels. 

I was literally just talking about all this with a friend, how it’s such an amazing sandbox to play in! it’s how fandom keeps creating! it’s an ending that’s not an ending!

Did steve simply grow old with peggy as its implied and let certain things happen cause he really cannot change the way things happened in the past and just walk to that bench when he’s old?

Did his going back automatically create a new reality and did he make tons of changes that we can’t really see because they don’t affect our characters’ reality and then he just used the particles to come back to this reality?

Did he just take one dance with peggy and then rescued that timeline’s steve from the ice, told him about bucky, told him what’s gonna happen, then that steve lives the life our steve always wanted, bonds with tony, helps with NYC, finds sam and bucky when he’s old, gives sam his shield….. and then our steve shows 5 min later, young and with starbucks?

Did he even really marry peggy since he wouldn’t talk about “her” at all? 👀👀

this is how fans keep exploring possibilities and producing content! with open ends and loose threads! i get how the not knowing part is what’s making lots of people sad potatoes, but there’s also a good side to that openness, ya feel?

they knew they had to bench steve somehow because of chris evans’ contract but they chose to gave him closure that wasn’t really closure. they had him choosing this for himself only when he knew bucky was going to be safe. they brought him back to bucky. they left the door open for him to be in the bucky & sam show. they gave us a way to make him young again in this very same movie (like bruce did with scott)!!!!!

to me it didn’t feel at all like them taking the life steve had built for himself away from him, but giving him the possiblity to live BOTH the one he lost and NOW GO BACK TO THIS ONE. they let him have everything!

so yeah as both a writer and a steve stan who was downright terrified of this movie, i’m really fucking happy

I think my issue is that if you spent the last cap movies burning down the world for your friend, burning bridges and wrecking relationships for him, then wouldn’t you have more scenes with him in the end? I wasn’t expecting any kind of canon romance, but it felt off. So much stony, and their flirty banter was harmless and their arguing intense, but then how come no reunion moment for Steve and Bucky? I’m ready for the fanfic

More scenes, yes, definitely. I’m always going to want that. And like i said there’s tons of valid reasons for not being entirely happy with the ending that go beyond ‘my sTEVE WOULDN’T HAVE LET BUCKY GET TORTURED *WHINES*’ because really we have zero information on that. 

I foolishly wish for an extended cut with some extra scenes and a bit more Bucky, but all in all I’ve just accepted that for marvel and the general public, Bucky’s pretty much a secondary character and unless it’s cap movies, that’s how relevant they’re gonna make him. It sucks, and I hate it, but it’s sadly how it seems to be… *sigh*

but yes, fanfic. this is us. this is what fandom does. i wouldn’t so much say endgame needs fixing but filling in the gaps. and that’s exactly what fandom excels at!

Hey! I adored Endgame and I was actually surprised to see the hate over Steve's ending on tumblr. I'm a Stucky shipper, but the canon ship is Steggy so like... that's that. I'm happy for Steve. Reviews I've seen are happy for Steve. So I meant to ask, is this hate a general-audience thing, or a small portion of mainly Stucky stans and ppl who tend to woobify Bucky? It might sound harsh, but Bucky's fine without being with Steve 24/7. Implying anything different is disrespectful to his character.

I’m definitely seeing it coming mostly from Stucky shippers, but considering I’m pretty much a Stucky blog and that’s the kind of content I see the most, that’s really like saying nothing. I know the general public loved the movie, but they also don’t tend to care about characters’ arc and motivations the way fandom does, and i really haven’t had much access to what other parts of the fandom think about the movie.

I really don’t want to speculate about whether this comes down to shipping or not. It probably plays a part, but there’s definitely valid reasons for not liking the ending. My only real issue is with those arguing that it’s the same timeline and saying things like “steve let bucky get tortured” or “steve knew about 9/11 and let it happen” (christ, don’t get me started on how disgusting that kinda jokes are) because it’s perfectly established in canon that it’s not the same timeline and that there’s nothing Steve could’ve done to change OUR bucky’s past.

Other than that, i’m not gonna try to tell people they need to like this, because it all really comes down to interpretation and to what’s fulfilling or not for you.

For some people, Steve’s choice was him leaving Bucky and everything else he’d built behind to live a quiet life with Peggy, and I can see how that’d feel maybe a bit out of character.

For me, it was Steve refusing to take even just one thing for himself, the one thing he’s wanted throughout his entire arc, until he knew 100% that the world was safe and his friends would be okay. For me it was Steve putting everything else above his personal happiness right up until the point when he realizes he has a chance to live that other life, and HELP AND DO GOOD IN THAT OTHER LIFE (which i’m convinced he does), knowing fully well that he’ll come back to this one and everything will be EXACTLY WHERE AND HOW HE LEFT IT. It’s Steve only letting himself have this when he can be sure that Bucky is safe and his actions won’t affect anyone. And to me that’s 100% Steve Rogers.

Steve could have saved Bucky. It would have been late enough for some torture and a new arm. We didn't spend hardly 2 seconds with Bucky after Steve came back, so we DON'T KNOW whether he's altered in this new timeline. He could have been standing there being filled with new memories! ...but probably not. :-( Also, do we think that giving back the Soul stone returns the soul sacrificed for it? It matters not at all that we didn't see it in the movie. There's plenty of time for a reveal!

Actually Steve not having altered our Bucky’s past is the one thing we can be 100% sure of. Steve couldn’t have helped our Bucky in any way because time is linear for each individual - as in, one person can travel to a different point in the general flow of time, but for them, their past will still be their past.

The best way to explain this would be Nebula: if altering a character’s past had direct effects on their present versions, when Nebula killed the past version of herself, she herself would’ve died, but she didn’t. 

Steve might be able to help this other timeline’s Bucky, but not our Bucky (and likewise, him going to that other timeline and living with Peggy doesn’t mean Peggy’s husband and kids get retconned in our timeline!)

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the little braid Bucky had in his hair when he came out of the portal into battle?? I headcanon that Shuri and Peter spent the time styling his hair while Sam teased him. And of course the teens watched Bucky and Sam bicker and egged them on while Okoye, T’Challa, and Strange rolled their eyes and sighed. Sorry this got away from me lmao. Also Bucky was at the funeral servin Looks!!! 👀👀

I haven't seen endgame, i literally can't because I know how they treated Thor and the jokes made about him in the movie. As someone that gained a lot of weight because of depression, grief, and an eating disorder, i had a breakdown even just *hearing* about the movie. If I saw it, i know it would be much, much worse, as it was for quite a few people I know. Maybe it's not an issue for everyone, but what they did there was NOT okay, so I cannot support this movie

I super feel you on this, but if it makes you feel any better (spoilers ahead, mind you!), i think they actually made the whole thing a bit better when they had him gather himself together by the end of the movie (and i did appreciate the acknowledgment of his trauma and how he seeked his mom’s advice <3), cause they didn’t have him instantly getting fit again through magic or anything of the sort.

he owns it and he kills it in that final battle (pretty much like in IW), and he honestly looks good once he’s spruced up a bit and with his hair braided and all. 

i think that was a nice, body-positive detail that sure, it might not entirely fix the whole having him as a comic-relief sorta thing during the first part of the movie, but it definitely helped reconcile me with his arc. like, there’s certainly issues with his treatment, but at least the acknowledgement of his ptsd and his weight “problem” not getting “fixed” (which is what you’d expect maybe from this kinda situations in movies) might make you feel a bit better about it? *hugs*
