This might be way too insane for some of you guys but I want to talk about it anyway.
Religious celibacy.
There's a lot of negative connotations about it, mainly from purity culture and biblical religions. This is because a lot of the time it's something forced onto people, and spreads the idea that you're "clean" if you're a virgin and "dirty" if you're not. This is SUCH a radical bible beliver way of looking at it. The reality is, no one is better or worse for abstaining from sex, waiting until marriage, etc. Someone who's never had sex has the same worth as a human as someone who fucks every day.
But if someone willingly decides for themselves to stay a virgin/give up sex for religious reaons, that is completely their decision and completely ok.
Virgin devotees have been a thing in helpol, famously associated with Artemis and other chase goddesses. Veiling is a thing in helpol, though not inherently linked to being chaste, it is a symbol that has been used for chaste goddesses.
So if you feel that your deity is calling you to remain a virgin/stay chase, there is no shame in choosing that path should you wish to follow it. If you want to dedicate your virginity/celibacy to your gods, that is your choice. There is no shame in having sexual attraction or urges while staying chaste either, it's normal, it's hormones in your body. And hey, if in 10 years you decide this isn't really for you anymore, you can always change your mind and work something out with your deity.
I (and the system) have decided to stay a virgin, likely forever. Given our relationship with our body as a trans system, sex is just something none of us can see happening. In the headspace? Yeah, whatever, sure. But with the body? Absolutely not. So us helpol alters had the thought "hey if we're staying this way willingly, why not ask the gods about it?"
Some work later, and the decision was made. I will stay a virgin devotee for the foreseeable future (likley forever). And honestly? It feels amazing. I feel closer to the gods, I feel like I'm worshipping by simply existing as a virgin. I feel like denying someone else my body, is like an offering and an act of devotion all at once. Like I have agency over my own body and the gods are proud of me and protecting me.
This life definitely isn't for everyone, but it is something that happened in history and continues to happen today. So if you feel called to stay a virgin/chaste for the gods, this is your encouragement to take it up with them. Talk to them, see what they think, if they think it's something you should explore/do. You can always change your mind later, you can always work it out with them later.
But there is no shame in choosing the virgin/celibate devotee path. If it's what's best for you, it's what's best for you. And the gods will be so proud of you for exploring that path and making that decision for yourself.
