Day 8 of my Christmas movie marathon: tonight I’m watching the movie that made a certain Christmas song become one of the best selling and most recognized Christmas songs of all time it’s the Irving Berlin holiday classic 1942’s “Holiday Inn” starring Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire & Marjorie Reynolds & Virginia Dale 😊
This movie will always be the movie that introduced the Christmas classic “White Christmas” to the world (its one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time ❤️). For the film Irving had to write a song for every major holiday presented in this film he wrote “White Christmas” On New Years Day in 1940 while staying with a friend in California. Irving looked out the window only to see light snow falling. He was in a place called Banning where Snow would occasionally fall there and he wrote the words “White Christmas” because of that experience of watching the snow fall 😊. Bing wasn’t fully aware of its potential when it was first introduced to him but he liked it 😊
and obviously it became the best selling Christmas song of all time selling over 150 million copies worldwide with 100 million of those being by the crooner himself 😊
