Today’s Gender of the Day is: Virpunk!
Virpunk is a colloquial term, within the scope of male-related and male-aligned experiences, for a culture of resistance against gendernormativity; a male-related or male-aligned identity that in and of itself is a resistance against gender norms, homophobia and transphobia, oppression, and societal status. This identity falls under the gendervir, genderqueer, and genderpunk umbrellas.
This is a sociopolitical identity, much like genderqueer, but specifically for those who fall within the gendervir spectrum - this includes all male, male-aligned, and male-adjacent identities. Someone who is virpunk chooses to subvert the public’s assumptions on what it means to be a “man” and challenges the expectations, roles, and stereotypes that come with this identity. It is a very flexible term that can include those who are nonbinary, abinary, polygender, agender, gender nonconforming, and more.
There are no specific terms similar to this identity and it is not used as an umbrella term, but the female-related equivalent would be called erapunk - though this term has yet to be officially coined.
