Together until the visa restrictions break us apart once again- My 3-month long tourist stay in Cuba 🇨🇺 came to the end, so once again I’m sitting at the Havana airport heading out of the island, so I can come back for another 3-months dose of pure happiness flavored with bits of occasional frustration. This time I decided for a short trip to Cancun, Mexico and wanted to bring @thaira.music with me as we can both use a little vacation from our “frontline TIC life”. (TIC stands for This is Cuba as anything goes here, just not what you expect and “frontline” because every day you have to fight for the most basic things. So we went to the Mexican embassy in Havana to apply for Teresa’s tourist visa. We were told here that we have to make an appointment online on the embassy site. Sure, no problem, I thought and got online to book the closest date. The website seemed to have a bug, as an appointment calendar kept coming up but I was unable to make any reservation. I thought that it’s my Mac comp or web browser I use. I tried everything during one week - no luck. I even asked my brother in Slovakia and a friend in Los Angeles to do the same. Nada. So I went again to the embassy and the same guy that told me to go online last time, tells me now that website is closed and allows to make an appointment only 1day a week and only during 10-15min window. “When is that exactly?” I ask. He says that no one knows, it depends from Mexico and suggests me just going back to the site every day, every possible second and keep trying. WTF??? Like I have nothing else to do and with complicated Cuban internet connection?? So I googled this problem online and found a logical answer -Don’t even bother trying to get appointment the “legal way” via embassy web. It doesn’t work. These appointments are being sold by people who have “contacts at the embassy” for about $100 (apart from another $100 you pay for Visa). Whaw. I know that This is Cuba, but some things I just expect to work as they should. So going to Cancun alone :( No time to resolve this VISA bullshit. #tic #thisiscuba #visarestrictions #visa #havana #cuba #breakapart #longdistance #cancun #mexico (at José Martí International Airport)
