This exquisite building of Newari architecture was built circa 1734 AD. Behind it, stands the Taleju Temple, built to pay homage to the personal deity of the Malla kings. Used by the kings of Patan as their Royal Palace until 1769, the building was mostly left unused until 1997 when it became the Patan Museum. Much of the oral histories, memories and reconstructions were forgotten during these years. Year 2015, when a massive earthquake thrust the greater land underneath this structure and (physically) erased two historic temples west of it, this palace complex stood strong, resilient - both in matter and memory.
