Earlier this year, my brother, @michaelturkas, moved from Norwich, Norfolk, to Preston in Lancashire. Recently I took a trip up North to go and visit him for a few days which was really fun and great to see him again! – It's the first time I'd been to Preston and I was definitely impressed. It's a lovely city with lots of independent cafes and restaurants, friendly people, an impressively large park and some interesting historical architecture. – Even better, it is close to lots of natural beauty, including the Forest of Bowland which we visited one day for a walk. This area was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1964 and when you visit it, it's easy to see why! As an AONB, the Forest of Bowland is protected under the 1949 National Parks and Access to Countryside Act. – The Forest of Bowland has an amazing rugged beauty to it, with steep moorland hills, undulating lowlands, rivers, streams, waterfalls, an abundance of wildlife and small historic villages, hamlets and isolated buildings. Setting off from the village of Dunsop Bridge, we walked through a valley surrounded by tall hills with trees and moorland, alongside winding rivers and fields of cows and sheep. The tranquility and serenity of the area was absolutely wonderful.
