Doodle /ˈduː.dl ̩/ verb [ I ] to draw pictures or patterns while thinking about something else or when you are bored (Cambridge Dictionary)
Here we are talking about doodle. Last few weeks, I am interested in drawing doodle characters on a piece of paper. I have to admit I am not that good in drawing, but I enjoy drawing this doodle. I like to learn how to make an abstract character which just crosses my mind, drawing the eyes and smiles to express some emotions. As a drawer, I do not think much of this drawing. I just draw more and more, try to make a connection between each character, fulfil the paper with the characters, and I want to ensure that each character communicates either to the viewer or another character.
Four years ago, someone drew me a doodle, and I was so delightful to receive this doodle. It is full of colourful character, and there is my name in the middle of the drawing (unfortunately, I left this doodle at my home far away). As a viewer, I interpret all those characters as the characteristics of my friends. The presence of the characters somehow makes me feel that I have many friends who are always beside me. They laugh, cry, mock, smile, greet, and bully each other. Some characters are too busy having communication with other characters. It could be seen from the eyesight and the smile, and also the position of their body. Some of the characters smiles widely to me and make me feel so warm looking at this character. That is the reason I like to see doodle and try to create more doodle now. I believe all the characters are talking and expressing their feeling. They are alive, not only just a picture. I could feel it, and every time I look this doodle, I will find a new interesting view because there are many characters that sometimes I did not notice. Sometimes there are some small characters hidden behind a big character, or some of them are smart enough protecting themselves from my eyes. This makes me feel like I am hunting treasure.
It is only the case of Doodle. I believe that other pictures also have their own meaning. They try to talk something to us. It could be seen from the colour, the size, the style, the angel, and many more to be noted. If pictures do not give meaning, why nowadays people bother to create attractive pictures for advertising products, why people are crazy enough on taking a photo and keep it, why painting are valued so high. In my opinion pictures able to deliver the meaning, sometimes deeper than words. A picture is important because it portrays ideas and aims of something. However, I also believe that picture is multi-interpretation. Everyone gets different meaning when they see a picture, and no one knows the exact meaning. It all depends on the knowledge, the experience, and the perspective people view toward the picture. To minimise the ambiguity, words/text are used to accompany the pictures. We need to think of what the message of this picture and then try to put some text in the picture if it is needed. Without text, it 's hard to reach the closest meaning unless we know the background of the creator of the picture.
Above that all, I should say that Picture is powerful, sometimes, more powerful than words.
Anyway, I got this tiny book with beautiful illustrations inside which talking so many things even though there are only a few words in this book. The title is the Tiny Book of the Tiny Stories
