A bit of an addendum(?) for #VisualNoiseZine ...
Some of you have started to receive your zine (thank you for tweeting photos, it’s always nice to see people have received them, especially across “the pond”) and I wanted to add a little bit since a couple of tragedies have happened since I was pasting this together last week. Two major (for me) incidents: Chris Cornell taking his life and then a couple of days ago the attack in Manchester.
While pasting the zine together I was listening to our local NPR station like I normally do when working from home and was getting updates regarding Chris Cornell’s death. The moment I heard that he’d hung himself in his hotel room I felt a wave of sadness crush me. Honestly, am still very down about this as I grew up listening to him as many of you probably have. If you have the zine, you’ll see that I wrote a small #DepressionLies in the bottom left hand corner of the inside cover. Each zine is a small reflection of what a personal diary would be for me and so I wrote, cut and pasted that in as I was listening to updates on NPR. Always know, it will get better. It may be very slow and painful, but it will get better.
The other tragedy is the Manchester attack. My heart goes out to those who’ve lost loved ones and the survivors.
We are living in difficult and strenuous times, but I firmly believe we need to keep creating, keep documenting and keep making art. It’s needed more now than ever. Stay strong... M
