Sometimes I think about the universe (quite possibly this one) where after finishing Bag a Legend, Vivian gets so sick of Shaw’s martyr complex endangering himself and others that she just starts drugging him with Hesperidean Cider so death can no longer be an escape. He must find some way to live with what he’s done. No choice anymore.

Shaw: The Weight - Amigo the Devil

The deeply uncommon optimistic song on Shaw’s playlist! Huzzah! Despite being a heavily self destructive person and also very much being a spymaster as his day job, Shaw does take a lot of pride and comfort in his ability to help and provide some semblance of a home to the people he cares about, even if he struggles to accept the same thing in reverse. His door is always open, behind the masks and various deceptions, no matter the state of things.

Vivian: Heel Turn 2 - The Mountain Goats

This one’s about Vivian’s quest to destroy her old self and actively become a worse person by her own definition (in order to make sure nothing she cares about can ever be taken from her again, very healthy girl). She’s not going to die in here but she will kill her old identity. And her ex husband. And the vake.

Isra: Just Like The Sea - PigPen Theatre Co.

This song has very few lyrics…

This was one of the first songs on Isra’s playlist and I think it fits very well into her backstory - they were never really meant to come to London, only pulled out to zee by a more powerful personality, and after that pull was severed, she now feels obligated to finish what the woman she followed started by completing the marvellous. It’s not a triumph, though. Isra’s still lost and adrift.

One of my favorite facts about Vivian is despite the fact that she styles herself as a high brow sophisticated lady, her go-to weapon is a Martini-Henry. Not a fancy, custom made rifle - a standard army issue, with her wedding ring tied to the gun’s strap. Something simple, efficient, and yes, quite a bit more common then she lets on.

21. Shaw didn’t have a childhood pet. He was chastised pretty frequently for feeding the stray cats in the alleyways, though.

2. Apples, probably. Vivian likes them but I think she generally prefers them cooked. Only one in three apples is good enough to eat raw, to her.

12. Bev has a couple library books checked out right now, borrowed from Benthic’s library. Mostly nonfiction he’s consulting for his research. He’s started all of them but finished few - most of the time he jumps around, picking out a few passages that are useful.
