For the 2024 writing recap post:
(2024 year in review fic asks)
2. What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year?
Hmm. [examines AO3] I've definitely written longer pieces (both chap fic and standalone) than I've pretty much ever written before, if that counts. The truth is this year has seen my biggest and most passionate dive into fanfiction basically ever, so in a sense all of it is new and I'm sort of figuring it out as I go along. XD
20. Share your funniest line
Oh man. I like to think I've had a lot of funny bits, so I dunno that I can necessarily pick just one.
I think my funniest moments have primarily been from liveblog banter, so here in no particular order are a few recent moments from Rakha's story where I made myself laugh:
Jaheira shoots her a narrow look sideways. “Indeed,” she agrees. “But it matters not, regardless. We are not here to make friends, and certainly not to impress their Tribunal. We are here to learn the location of their temple, and I see no reason we should do it in a way that pleases them in the process.”
She tilts her head. “Unless - Minsc, you too were with us when we battled Sarevok, so long ago. Perhaps you remember the way to the Temple of Bhaal, when I do not?”
Minsc, who has been examining the aforementioned selection of tongs with great interest, looks up at the sound of his name. “The Temple of Bhaal?” he says brightly. “Yes, Boo and Minsc remember it well, and Minsc remembers the way as clearly as if there were not a century of stone in the way.” He lifts his chin proudly. “Down.”(x)
“Ghaik beasts,” Lae'zel mutters sourly. “In this tongue they are called intellect devourers.”
“Excellent,” Minthara says briskly. “Then Wyll should have nothing to fear.”
“Hey!” says Wyll.(x)
-----
“Foolish,” Rakha mutters. “I remember nothing before the nautiloid’s darkness. And I have known many dark things since. This horror is no different.”
“Yes,” Lae'zel agrees, low and curt, her voice resonant in the swirling shadows. “Fear serves us no purpose, and we shall cut it down along with our enemies.”
“The curse of this place is built on the fear that consumes those who face it,” Minthara says gravely. “We shall not give it the satisfaction.”
“Well. All right,” Wyll says dryly. “If no one else will say it, I will - that house is terrifying.” (x)
