Lil Wayne is evidence that no matter how down and out a rapper sounds the greats, always have it in them. Lil' Wayne for the past few months has been on a tare bewteen his mixtapes Dedication 6 and and Dedication 6 reloaded he's released some of the best rhymes since 09. Prior it wouldn't be an understatement to say Wayne had been in the biggest slump for a great rapper, ever. Sure he hadn't been able to release the fifth installment of the Carter series but even still the material that did come out from Dedication 5, No Ceilings 2, INAHB2 etc were all mediocre at best. So his latest work is surprising and refreshing. To Wayne's credit, he's always had a couple tracks that showed that made me go "Ok, the ability is still there". He just needed a muse; better climbing upstream than being on top. He's best opperating as the underdog and he's certainly that. "Vizine" is a track with a sparse and dark atmosphere, and Lil Wayne comes in with the perfect tone. He sounds hungry, weary and motivated to show he still got it. He's fluid switching flows, finding different pockets in the beat and hopscotching from metaphor to punchline without many eye rolling lines. I just hope we getting this energy from Lil Wayne throughout the year, for the first time in a minute I'm looking forward to Wayne's future work.
