A detail I noticed watching through s6 again.
Here’s Krolia’s reaction when she finds out that Keith’s dad died (and Keith had to go through his death alone):
In the actual animation, her eyes are shaking. She’s sweating, and she looks pretty devastated.
Contrast with Shiro’s reaction when the castleship got hit with its own ray reflected at the end of s2:
His eyes are also shaking here, and you can see sweat on the side of his face. He looks pretty devastated also, and this is even preempted by his shouting “Allura!” right before this scene.
They’re exactly paralleled scenes.
Wait, you say, the other paladins were pretty devastated when the castleship was hit, too. Yeah, they were:

Of all of them, Pidge’s eyes are also shaking, and she had tears in them--she’s the closest one when compared to both Krolia and Shiro’s reactions. Lance’s body most closely resembles Shiro’s, doubling over in grief, but we don’t see any other similar indications between the two.
That, and the fact that Shiro shouts for Allura right before all the rest of the Paladins’ reactions, and then it goes back to Shiro for his reaction, with the shaking eyes and sweat running down his face, all this tells us that this scene we already saw in teh s2 finale? We’re supposed to have that recalled in our minds with the exact same types of scenes for an established couple. When looking at all the reactions between the Paladins and Krolia, Shiro is the only one who truly mirrors her reaction to finding out the man she loved was dead.
