they sure helped me open my own mind
Because of the Vlogbrothers, I’ve found a community of amazing people, cool and interesting creators and artists and active members in our society. I’ve discovered that I don’t hate learning. I had been looking at it the wrong way (for me). I became more considerate, I branched out. I went from a lone gas cloud to an entire solar system, to finding out I was a part of a brilliant galaxy, and there was much more out there.
All I had to do, was open my mind.
The Vlogbrothers didn’t open my mind, but they sure helped me open my own mind.

NET NEUTRALITY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc2aso6W7jQ&feature=share So this is a vlogbrothers video made 3 years ago! Three! I feel it’s relevant again so I’m sharing it. It talks about net neutrality and why it’s a good thing by way of a one person debate
talk about it, and most of all, SHARE it.
John and Hank have shown me that it is okay, and in fact ENCOURAGED, to (as my boyfriend and I put it) show “my nerd”. I went through high school hiding my interests and always did what everybody else wanted to because I wanted to fit in.
I wanted to be cool. I threw away my interests to make room for theirs. I slowly became someone else and in 2010, in my second year of university, after a very brutal breakup, I looked at myself and I didn’t recognize the person staring back at me.
She wasn’t a bad person. Just someone I didn’t know.
This is when I discovered the Vlogbrothers.
John and Hank may not know it, but they encouraged me to pick up the things that I left behind for other people. John helped me read again and find whimsy in life.
Hank helped me regain my childhood curiosity, but this time channeled it towards other worldly things I never thought would interest me like science and space.
John, Hank, and Nerdfighteria taught me that not only is it okay to like whatever you like, it is encouraged to like it, talk about it, and most of all, SHARE it.
You all taught me how to become more comfortable in my own skin with who I am and my interests. In fact, my boyfriend (who has been my best friend since 2007) has told me over and over again that his favorite part of me is “my nerdy”.
Without John, Hank, and Nerdfighteria to encourage me to let my nerdy out and be who I am, I don’t think I would be a writer. I don’t think I would be so in love with my best friend. I would be big ball of anxiety and a closeted anime, Disney, fantasy, comic book nerd that would never follow her dreams and do what she truly wants in life.
Thank you Nerdfighteria. And most of all, thank you, John and Hank Green.

being an adult doesn’t mean you have to know all the answers.
John and I think on the same literary levels. I love his writing, I love the way he thinks about things. Hank is my go-to for world information. I grew up in what I consider a very sheltered environment.
My parents (in their good will) wanted to protect their children from the shitty world out there. But in doing that, they didn’t prepare their children for the shitty world.
Hank helped me prepare. John helped me prepare.
I’m an adult now, but these brothers helped me understand that being an adult doesn’t mean you have to know all the answers. We’re all trying to figure this out. It’s okay if you think differently, it’s OKAY if you have a different opinion.
These are ideas that were not inserted into my childhood. When I had a different opinion than my mom or dad, it’s was WRONG and IRRELEVANT.
Hank and John opened a community where those words are not tied to anyone’s opinions. I know a few other Nerdfighters in my friend group that these brothers have helped in this way as well.
I owe a lot to Hank and John Green. I know others do as well. These men and their families are an asset to the world, and their presence alone is decreasing my view of worldsuck.
Keep on keeping on, Hank and John. We love you.
