Hey it’s me your friendly Neighborhood opera singer
It’s been a while... hey... how are you? Let me tell you how I am.... I am stressed. Audition season is always so scary and tends to leave me with the sense that everything is up in the air. It is all uncertain you keep asking your self “do I stay with safe or do I take the risk” and that’s terrifying. I know I’m usually a happier blog but during this time I think it’s important for us to all be a bit honest and human. Opera is not all memes and fun it’s deeply personally. When we audition and sing we are holding out our hearts with the realization that someone could crush it. It’s the most vulnerable feeling. I think as performers we don’t talk about this aspect of the craft and I want to SO for the next week please feel free to submit an audition story! It can be anonymous it can be funny it can be personal thoughts about auditioning or opera anything. I only ask that there is no insulting others or profanity because I don’t like that to be put out there. I’m not saying it can’t be negative but it can’t bring others down! Thank you all and I hope we can start a dialogue!
honestly the best part of any music lesson is when you and your teacher both adore the piece you’re working on, and that seeps into the music itself so it all just comes out sounding really beautiful and everything’s right in the world
A week until my second recital of the semester!
"My life is an untuned piano"
-My local Vocal Major
So a thing happened this past weekend; I performed my first ever Recital! My Junior Recital to be exact! I'm so proud of myself for pushing myself past my insecurities and self doubts. I'm proud of the work I've done and the progress I've achieved this past year. I'm so grateful for the people who came out, ( @bitter-crossbows ily) and for my new voice teacher who gave her all every week to make sure I was doing the same. So enjoy my singing faces!
Some updates on my life, bc I've been very absent and will continue to be so for awhile, unfortunately. -I spent an hour on my April spread and I haven't used it. At all. I've become really bad about bullet journaling. -I have to finish a piece for percussion ensemble (O Shenandoah and Amazing Grace) and an original piece for a chamber chorale by the end of this week. Thus, I gave the glockenspiel lyrics. -I got accepted into BoCo, Vanderbilt, MSM, Oberlin, and Ithaca all for Vocal Performance, so if you have questions about auditions there just hmu. -I REALLY liked Vanderbilt. A lot. So I'm trying to get money out of them, bc BoCo is my 2nd they gave me $18k. I know I can't go wrong with either school, I just felt like Vandy was a better fit for me personally. -Senioritis. -So much work.
