Earlier this month at an audition I was asked the key of the piece I had sung and I replied “Eb major.” To which the PIANIST replied, “uh, D major” 😅😅😅

Hey it’s me your friendly Neighborhood opera singer

It’s been a while... hey... how are you? Let me tell you how I am.... I am stressed. Audition season is always so scary and tends to leave me with the sense that everything is up in the air. It is all uncertain you keep asking your self “do I stay with safe or do I take the risk” and that’s terrifying. I know I’m usually a happier blog but during this time I think it’s important for us to all be a bit honest and human. Opera is not all memes and fun it’s deeply personally. When we audition and sing we are holding out our hearts with the realization that someone could crush it. It’s the most vulnerable feeling. I think as performers we don’t talk about this aspect of the craft and I want to SO for the next week please feel free to submit an audition story! It can be anonymous it can be funny it can be personal thoughts about auditioning or opera anything. I only ask that there is no insulting others or profanity because I don’t like that to be put out there. I’m not saying it can’t be negative but it can’t bring others down! Thank you all and I hope we can start a dialogue!

So I was thinking...

I started this blog my freshman year of undergrad when I was dealing with some hard times I was questioning what I was doing in my life and whether I was even good enough to make it... the community here supported me and lifted me up. The times I felt I couldn’t go on singing, my spark was gone and I was done. You all kept me going. I have always been careful to operate this blog with anonymity because it gives me the freedom to be who I am with no filter or fear. I think that in this profession we can lose who we are in what everyone else wants us to be. You and this blog kept me from losing that... I Graduated with my masters this year so I guess that technically means I’m no longer a vocal major... in light of that in the next few days you are going to see a name and style change... it’s still going to be the same type of blog and I will definitely be posting more again but I’m also wanting to improve what I’m doing here... I still want to keep meme posting but I also want to provide resources... so thank you for all your support and if you have a new name suggestion I’m all ears

An Apology and a Question

Hey all this year has been crazy so I have kind of been out of commission and not posting my normal content/original (not reblogged)content in a while. I just wanted to apologize and say that this is blog is rebooting and is going to be active again. Their might be a new look who knows but basically I'm back and open for suggestions. One of my neighbours slipped this under my door while I was practising, I thought they were going to make a noise complaint but they just had a request. I played it with my windows open and I heard really loud clapping come from a balcony a few stories up which was super lovely. I’m in such a lovely mood now it’s so nice to be appreciated.
