Hastur the Hastrman

On my walk today i walked past the playground in our village where a few small children were singing a Czech nursery rhyme about a Vodník (for those who don’t know, a Vodník is a very popular Slavic water demon with frog-like features who drowns people and traps their souls in cups) except the particular song they were singing used the germanised (well, czechified-germanised) term for a Vodník- a Hastrman. And, well, yeah. The similarity slapped me in the face so have a quick drawing.

One day a man went into the forest, to pick berries. 2. He wandered for a long time in the woods and came across the flowing river. Approaching closer, he saw an old man sitting on the bank, dressed all in white and with a long gray beard. The old man beckoned him with a finger. 3. A man, without understanding why, suddenly began to approach him. As if some force was pushing him forward. Then he felt that he was falling into the water. 4. When he got to the bank, the gray-haired old man was gone. And at that place where he was sitting, there was a wet grass and lying mud. It was Vodyanoy*. *male water spirit in Slavic culture
