Void Menreiki
oh no
Kohaku— drabble
Takes place post Void Menreiki story event
Processing. How he wished his mind was as fast as his reflexes. It was not so. It needed time more like his digestive system to sift and understand things, to not only know but to chase the conclusion to its end.
Menreiki’s mansion of cramped halls and many eyes still haunted him. Masks that could only feel one thing floated before his eyes- so he must give his eyes something else to look at. Hakuzosu knelt alone by a still pond near Seimei’s residence, eyes on the water.
A Hakuzosu with light gray hair stared back. It was an illusion, a trick of overcast sky turning his hair darker, but it was who he was looking for.
“I was you,” he admitted, quietly. If he tried to remember, he could feel the fire in his veins from his past burning hatred for humans as though it was yesterday. The blood he’d spilled was just as easily recalled, both the scent and taste that was so overpowering his vision felt tinted red. Yes, that was him.
“But I chose a new life.” The pond rippled and his reflection looked displeased. Hakuzosu shook his head at it. “I could not have desired to be Kohaku without being you first. Without so many mistakes, so many moons of hatred, I would not have needed to change. I would not have met Master Seimei.”
He bowed his head. “If I wanted to spend all my time thinking on the past, I might as well go back to that mansion where time doesn’t move. It does pass out here though. Just because I was you, doesn’t mean I’m not me today.” He had sworn to never forget himself and he meant it, both the good and the bad.
“I’m not perfect. No, I’m better. I’m complete.”
