There will never be enough bats for Bat
The internet is a terrible place sometimes in the way that someone can be deeply important to you and yet become invisible due to a blog name-change or change in a change in a social medium's algorithm or usage habits.
I literally only found out today that Bat ( @voidbat, @mother-entropy, @saint-batrick) passed away in his sleep in mid-January of 2024 at home. I only learned he was no longer with us when I went to tag him in a batty post here and realized I hadn't seen him on my dash in a while. I actively went to facebook for the first time in a long time and found out, in the worst possible way, just how long ADHD-time-dilation can actually be.
Their roommates at the time, despite being in the middle of preparing for an interstate move, managed the disposition of his estate and saw to his final wishes. They have been paying for all of those expenses out of whatever funds they've been able to raise since then.
With the assistance and knowledge of Go Fnd Me, they were able to repurpose the campaign that Bat was running at the time of his death - originally for helping find a new home for him and their cats. Prior to today, it hasn't received any new money in five months and, while I don't know these folks personally, and haven't discussed this with them, I'm certain they would appreciate any offerings they receive.
I feel like an absolute heel for not noticing sooner, and I want to offer my deepest condolences to everyone else who is mourning the World's Shiniest Bat. This world is darker and lesser for his absence. And my deepest apologies to everyone who has been trying to manage all of this since they've been gone.
I'm going to reblog this immediately with the link to the campaign, so while I want to see this shared by all of people who have been impacted by literally one of the most incredible people I've ever been lucky enough to encounter on the internet, please reblog this post that has the link. I want to avoid any shenanigans tumblr might pull with these kinds of things.
May history remember him as not only beautiful but so so so much more.
