Aaw shit yeah time to be aggressively vague whilst still technically giving accurate answers!! I love this.

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

Not very! Like, she can probably count the number of people she’s trusted in her whole life on the fingers of one hand. She doesn’t do “trust” so much as she does “it’s extremely beneficial to this person for them to help me and to continue helping me, and it’s unlikely for this to stop being true”.

21. Why do they get up in the morning?

One part habit to two parts sheer bloody-mindedness. She’s come so far and tried so hard and she’s not about to stop now just because it turned out that none of it really mattered.

27. What causes them to feel dread?

Nothing she ever dreaded happening could have compared to what did. At this point there’s not much left to be afraid of.

31. Who are they the most glad to have met?

Her spouse; her best friend and adviser; her adopted daughter. Enodyne keeps all three of them close to her heart.

38. What memory do they revisit the most often?

Dwelling on the past would be gratuitously masochistic.

42. How badly do they want to reach their end goal?

Enodyne’s surprisingly aimless at this point in her life. She’s got some questions she wants answered, and once she knows the answers she’ll figure out what to do next.

What would she give up in pursuit of those answers? Not as much as you might think. There’s no point in throwing away her future just to chase a past she can never get back.

3. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)

Mote’s brain is mostly a computer! She just. literally puts herself into sleep mode. That’s what she does.

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Mote doesn’t really do nostalgia. It’s one of the areas where her brain works differently from human brains, she’s extremely focused on what’s-happening-now/what’s-going-to-happen rather than what’s-happened.

Sometimes she’ll run the numbers in her brain and look up at the part of the sky where her space station is, and even if she can’t see it she knows it’s there and remembers why she came down in the first place.

17. Are they easily embarrassed?

Nope! She’s completely oblivious to the whole thing. Human social norms are weird!!

26. What is their preferred mode of transportation?

Mote likes walking best. It gives her the freedom to notice things she might otherwise miss. If she has to go faster she prefers mechanical over organic: it’s the method which feels more familiar to her, and her understanding of machines is vastly better than her understanding of animals.

32. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?

Not unless you count “I’m Mote! I’m from space.” Conversation for Mote is mostly about getting information across, so she doesn’t tell anecdotes unless they’re relevant to the situation or specifically requested. I’m also not convinced she has a sense of humour (or at least, not one which humans would recognise).

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Smell and taste, mostly. The sweet pastries he used to steal from street stalls and eat while they were still hot enough to burn his fingers; various shitty alcohols he drank when he was too young to have any idea what quality tasted like; the small hard candies given to him by a man who might have been his father, if he’d ever worked up the courage to ask.

He’d call deny any sense of nostalgia and call those memories childish and stupid, but secretly he kind of misses those days. Things were simpler then.

13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

He likes red, teal, and gold, and he does look good in them! Vivid jewel tones suit him very well.

20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?

Family are the people you’re related to; friends are the people who can do things for you; romantic partners are the people you want to fuck.

(Sideways is not very good with affection and I’m pretty sure he has never had a genuinely positive relationship. This is the sort of shit which happens when your mother is a crime boss.)

38. What memory do they revisit the most often?

Being very small, hiding under a table and watching his mother talk to her inner circle in a meeting he was absolutely not supposed to be watching but snuck into anyway, and being completely in awe at the sense of power on display, thinking this is it, this is what matters in the world.

His brother telling him to leave Qi and be his opening into the outside world, like okay Cleaver you couldn’t have asked literally anyone else to do that? Tom Sideways is a city boy and tramping through countryside dirt with three overly-noblebright randoms is his personal hell.

42. How badly do they want to reach their end goal?

Sideways has a lot of goals, but his ultimate one is to live happily amongst wealth and power and beauty in Qi’s upper levels. He will throw anything and anyone under the bus to achieve this.

(My end goal is to character-develop him to a point where this stops being true.)

my top favorite aa things are

absolutely no one is cis or straight, and especially not neurotypical (the cis/straight thing is debatable, but at minimum literally all the characters are very nd relatable in different ways even if i dont always agree with how the series writes mental illness)

ghosts are canon

pretty much all girl villains in the series

something cool from a later game

honestly it kind of goes downhill after the trilogy imo but athena is worth playing for, and aai2 is a really good game for tying up loose ends in universe and also has some of my favorite characters

also i love geiru and she is literally brionne so just imagine the aa universe except a literal pokemon takes the witness stand
