luke carries the old hound dog in his arms and into the office. normally old dogs like this one with ailments so small as the loss of teeth or a limp are handled rather cruelly. tom had spotted his pa eyeing the dog over the past couple months and knew what he was thinking. he had suggested putting the thing out of its misery by drowning it in the pond by their house. said it was more humane than watching it limp around on its bum leg. luke wasn’t going to let that happen though. he had always loved animals.  so he scraped together some money by cleaning up the stalls for the local stables, it wasn’t enough to pay the whole bill he assumed, but it'd be a start. of course that money could have gone to buy food but he figured the life of the dog was worth more than a little extra on their small supplied plates. luke had rode into town on the back of someones truck with the dog and now stood in the office talking to the receptionist about getting his dog in.

“If you’re going to tell me to ask Tommy something you can forget it.” Nick waved his hand dismissively, bringing a rather large glass to his lips and taking a sip. He had situated himself in the safezone’s bar, a place where he frequented before the infection anyway. It felt familiar to him, being surrounded by booze, the only thing missing was a casino and money. But he could work with this, it was as good as things were goign to get.
