“Mr. Ramon!!!” Little Jesse squealed when she caught sight of the curly haired lawyer. Harry had her solidly by the four-year-old hand, but she was tugging with the strength of a pro wrestler.
“Jesse! What’s up, girl?” Cisco asked, immediately dropping to his knees to be eye level with her.
Cisco and Jesse high fived and Harry tentatively let go of her hand. It wasn’t every day you found a divorce lawyer that kids gravitated to, but Cisco Ramon was just that.
“She’s such an angel.” Cisco stood properly and addressed Harry, then.
“She thinks the same of you.” Harry said, suddenly honest and raw.
Cisco smiled all the same. “You think so?"
Harry clocked the way Cisco glanced down to Jesse, trying to understand her feelings on him.
"My dad says this is the last time we get to see you, so I can’t say anything embarrassing.” Jesse said in the sudden way kids tell large truths.
Harry sucked air in at the corners of his mouth. Cisco gave a soft, surprised chuckle.
“Mr. Ramon, why does this have to be the last time we see you?” Jesse asked.
Cisco looked from Jesse to Harry. “An angel, but a precocious angel.”
Harry gave a gusty sigh. “Mr. Ramon, let me explain…"
"Please. This is your last appointment. Please call me Cisco.” He asked, not breaking eye contact with Harry.
Harry swallowed nervously. “Cisco,” the name felt intimate even after they had negotiated his home life in a court of law together. “It’s not what she’s making it sound like.” He nodded to his daughter.
“It’s not? That’s a shame.” Cisco said, and eyed for Harry’s reaction.
“That’s a shame?” Harry asked
“Why is it a shame?” Jesse chimed in.
Cisco eyed Jesse a moment. “Maybe I shouldn’t say in front of.” Cisco glanced to Jesse again and back to Harry. “But I was going to give you my number at the end of the session. My personal number. For your personal use. If you ever wanted.”
Cisco winced at his own awkwardness.
“I’d love that.” Harry said, quickly. He laughed once, in disbelief. “Really? I’d love that… Cisco.” Harry tested the name out again. He loved the way it felt.
Cisco grinned back at Harry. “Oh thank god."
"Yayyy, does this mean this isn’t the last time we see you?” Jesse asked.
“I think it might.” Cisco laughed.
The first night Harry could get a sitter, Cisco and he had scheduled a proper dinner date. They sat in a fancy restaurant, and ordered drinks and fancy food.
“So should we do that thing couples do when they start dating after knowing each other a long time?” Cisco pondered. “You know, where we introduce ourselves again and pretend we never met until tonight?"
Harry put a hand to his chin and assessed Cisco for a minute. "If you want. But I’d much prefer to tell you all the things you actually do that I like."
Cisco’s eyebrows bobbed up. "Like what?”
Harry chuckled and pushed his food around his plate to break eye contact for a moment. “I can never take my eyes off you, when you interact with Jesse.”
Cisco’s jaw dropped and his cheeks colored. “Okay that is so not fair because she’s your daughter and the way you care about her is just so precious. Like. That time you came in carrying her on your shoulders? Totally adorable.”
Harry laughed. “Well, thank you."
Cisco’s eyes narrowed and his gears turned in his head.
"What?” Harry asked immediately.
“You were gonna say something else!” Harry insisted
“I don’t know how you’ll take this."
“There was just.” Cisco cleared his throat. “There was that one time that you were having that conversation with your ex’s lawyer.”
Harry laughed, remembering. “Oh. And I yelled at him.”
“You destroyed him.” Cisco chuckled. “I can’t even remember what he insinuated but you ripped him apart. It was… so hot.” He admitted
“Good to know.” Harry smirked
Cisco rolled his eyes but his cheeks were flushed.
They split a chocolate-y dessert and decided to take a stroll through central city.
“So this was lovely and all… but this isn’t how it would be all the time…” Harry said softly. After a long time of quiet.
“I’m quite familiar.” Cisco whispered back. “You have a child. I couldn’t waltz in and out as I pleased."
"I’m not asking for commitment. I’m just pointing out. My life. It’s hectic.” Harry clarified.
“In case you didn’t notice, I adore your daughter. And I may have a little inflated ego but I think she’s pretty okay with me too.” Cisco smiled reassuringly.
“Yeah. Pretty okay. I think that’s a good way to put it.” Harry said sarcastically.
Cisco turned and batted softly at Harry’s chest. “Hey. She likes me!” Cisco stopped, realizing they were face to face. His hand had stopped, mid - flail against Harry’s chest. Harry caught Cisco by the elbows, keeping him that close.
“Of course she likes you. Almost as much as I do.” Harry whispered, a breath’s distance from Cisco’s face.
Cisco’s chin nodded upward a little. Harry’s eyes drifted to Cisco’s lips.
They gravitated together and suddenly they were kissing and neither one of them knew who started it.
A passerby whistled at them and they jumped apart.
Cisco’s hand covered his mouth. Harry stared with wide eyes.
"Let me call the sitter.”
