Valko x MC 4th of July fluff
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Babe, you know you don’t have to do this.” You said, for the eighth time. And for the eighth time, Valko shrugged, giving you his usual confident smile.
“Worry any harder and you’ll level a forest. I’m well aware of my limits, and this is nothing.”
The two of you were sitting in the back of his jeep, surrounded on all sides with snacks, blankets, drinks, and decorations for the occasion. Star-shaped lights hung from the rear bars of the roll cage, the golden glow lighting up the tips of Valko’s red hair.
Across the lakeside where you were parked, you could hear the excited yells and whistles of parties all gathered around for the show. The lights from headlights, flashlights, and sparklers danced over the water. An eager tension hung in the air... and in the line of Valko’s shoulders.
(Being as massive as they were, it was hard not to notice.)
He’d agreed to see the fireworks with you as soon as you had asked, and you hadn’t thought much of it. But now you realized that you should have. You could see the subtle twitch in his brow with each firecracker that went off. You could see the tightened cords in his neck at the shriek of every fountain firework that lit up the evening air.
And now that you knew what to look for, you could clearly see that your boyfriend was one loud noise away from popping ears and tail, and vanishing into the woods.
You’re such an idiot. You should’ve known things would end up like this! You—
A set of knuckles rapped against your forehead, jolting you out of your spiraling worry.
“I can smell your thoughts from here hon. “
You rubbed your forehead, giving your wolf a glare, which he met with an unimpressed look.
“I know what you’re thinking, and I’m fine. Stop worrying.”
“Don’t lie to me Valko! You very clearly aren’t! You’re twitching at every sound!”
He opened his mouth, just as another mini rocket whistled through the air. He tried to hide his flinch under a stretch, and failed miserably.
You sighed in despair, shaking your head before you turned to start gathering up your things to pack them up. This wasn’t worth it, and you weren’t going to stay here for another moment longer.
You’d barely grabbed the first blanket before large hands eclipsed yours, and you were tucked in against Valko’s chest.
“Hey, come on, none of that.”
“You wanted to see the fireworks, so we’re gonna see. The fireworks.”
You twisted your neck to look up at him, and he met your gaze steadily.
“It’s fine. What sort of wolf would I be if I ran from a little thunder?”
He was set in his decision, you could see that clearly. Which did nothing to ease your guilt and worry.
“This isn’t ‘little’…I don’t want you to hurt just so I can see some pretty lights.”
Valko sighed before closing his eyes and nuzzling into your hair. Being this close, you could feel him deliberately relax against you, though his heartbeat thudded heavily against your back.
“Listen…if I promise you, on my Pack, that I’ll be alright tonight, would you believe me?”
…not a small thing to swear by.
He snuggled in closer, his breath warm behind your ear.
And with a quick shuffling of boxes, you sat up high, facing the lake with Valko tucked snugly between your legs. Your thighs firmly pressed against his ears, while your hands hovered protectively over his head where his wolf ears usually stood, just in case. It felt nice and secure…but you couldn’t help but ask one more time.
Twin hands wrapped around your ankles, pulling your legs tighter against his head, before one firmly patted your calf.
