something I said to Emily about grapes
I have dream to share with you: one day I want to plant my drive with lavender & rosemary. Then on Saturdays I will fill a tub with water & boil the herbs into it, to wash the sheets on the front porch. I may wash my hair in it first.
Today our team took the train twelve minutes out of town to Volpara, "Fox Hill" in Italian, the vineyard of two sundried angels, Albert & Eke. Their smiles, their land, their wine, their food, the color that grape pulp dies your teeth--these two partners in joy have found all the good things in life & made space for them. I don't know when all of me--mind, soul, heart, & body--has been so full. Your ears would have tingled to hear Italian, English, Spanish, French, Dutch, & German being spoken (& sung!) carelessly over the vines. Emily girl, I could live like this I think. I don't know if I ever will, but this place is stepping confidently into my collection of sehnsucht images.
Mmmmm God is so good. It is not because of the good grapes that I can, tonight, admit a good God; rather it is because of a good God that I could, today, taste good grapes. Taste & see, no? To bring me here, to take me on, to bring me back for a pillow night with you, He is faithful.
