Coffinshipping is so crazy to me because like. Hoffman def wants that guy, one way or another. He left all those clues, all that info, for Strahm to piece together, Hoffman wanted Strahm to understand him. to see him for who he really is, to see how he saw things. He must have felt some sort of kinship with Strahm, maybe even saw a bit of himself, but he saw a connection there and hoped Strahm would understand and pursue that. I think Hoffman was looking for a way out and Strahm was the best person that could provide that. He was the perfect match, he'd either finally put a stop to him or join Hoffman after understanding where he came from. He either wanted his apprenticeship to be put to an end or gain someone that would make working of Jigsaw easier.

Like at his very core, Mark Hoffman is a miserable lonely man. He's lost so many people, many which he directly played a hand in their deaths (Riggs) or feels he could have done more for (Angelina). His isolation and desperation is what lead him to join Jigsaw, he doomed himself to a life of misery and for once in his life he gets to enjoy himself with the whole cat and mouse chase he set up for Strahm. It was probs the most fun he had in a whileeeee, as tense as it was for his cover to be blown at any moment.

I think thats why after Strahm dies, Hoffman just slowly starts to lose it. He lost his chance at a way out, what could have been his perfect match is dead because the man refused to see things from his perspective and didnt learn to trust him enough. Hell, I think I even remember seeing someone say Strahm was the death of Hoffman's humanity and lowkey I see it. Strahm was the only person he cared for, the only person he gave a damn about and the one person who could have saved him, who could have understood him. And now hes gone.
