Things from the Season 5 Afterbuzz Interview with with Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery
The scene with Lotor in the cell is inspired by the scene from The Avengers. (And water is wet)
They wanted to make sure everything he said had a genuine quality to it. He hasn’t said anything that makes you think he wants to continue on the path of Zarkon. He means things genuinely, so when all is said and done, we’ll be able to look back and realise he’s been telling the truth this whole time.
Lotor had a ton of trauma in his life, but overcame it. He respects both sides of the war. He’s a lot like where Allura ended up.
“With war, there is sacrifice. Lotor just made some tough decisions”--Dos Santos
The battle with Lotor and Zarkon was an “All Hands on Deck” storyboard situation and was hard to manage with the many working pieces
Rolo has a different VA for that episode.
“Lotor is a daywalker”-- Dos Santos
Honerva was pregnant with Lotor when she entered the rift.
Thanks to being in Haggar’s womb when she was exposed to quintessence, quintessence is now a part of his DNA. That gave him a longer life span and makes him age more slowly.
Zarkon wanting save Honerva is a mixture of things, him wanting to save her because she was pregnant and he was in love with her.
Quintessence made Zarkon slowly more dead inside
Once the Galra realised that Sam was a scientist, they took him out of the hard labour and put him in a cushy office job...for Galra.
Sam was housed in a prison under Lotor’s control.
The showrunners were in Seattle after the con, completely tired from the panels the day before, and they were entertained by our reactions on Twitter. The first thing they saw was Keith’s mother’s tag blowing up.
Haggar is broken up about Zarkon’s death, but is still going to get things done
Keith would’ve gone to space for Shiro
The Amazing Grace song was a Star Trek reference, being put in by the storyboard artist
“There are more things coming in the next season.” (insert goat screams here)
Feel free to add on if I missed anything
