what are your thoughts on Iverson? I personally feel like he meant well but executed it kinda wrongly (I could probably make a whole post on my thoughts about him lol)
Honestly, I don’t have that much to say about Iverson — which is actually one of the reasons this post took me forever to write. From an objective point of view, he’s not a bad character. He didn’t commit any grand acts of “evil” or “good.” He’s more of a neutral presence — someone whose influence can be both positive and negative.
But let’s be real, when we look at him on a more personal level… yeah, he was pretty terrible toward the Garrison trio. His teaching methods were questionable at best. You could say he definitely helped lay the foundation for Lance’s whole “I’m not good enough” complex, and was at least partly responsible for the way Keith was treated back at the Garrison. He also clearly was one of those authority figures who make you feel stressed without even realizing why. Especially when it comes to hierarchy and leadership.
That said, after the students disappeared, he did manage to keep training other cadets well enough that they actually survived the siege on Earth. And to be fair, if he hadn’t drilled them so harshly beforehand, they probably would’ve been a lot less prepared for actual wartime conditions. So, in a way, he helped toughen them up — even if his approach wasn’t exactly healthy.
In summary: he’s your typical adult who’s good at his job, but not necessarily good at teaching young people. He can lead experienced soldiers and give solid advice, but he’s not the kind of person who should be shaping fragile minds — especially in such a high-stress field.
Also, full honesty: I haven’t actually watched all of seasons 7 and 8, where he apparently shows up again and maybe gets more development. So yeah, my opinion is definitely subjective.
