Voltron Posters: Lance (1/4)
Ok so I wasn’t sure yesterday because maybe it was just the quality of people’s photos from NYCC, but Shiro’s poster is definitely grey rather than black (it’s super obvious when put next to Keith’s)
Sign that this isn’t *actually* Shiro? Foreshadowing of some sort? Idk...

USA Imperialism in Voltron
Okay, so I don’t want to start a fight, but I’d like to make the USA relationship with their army clearer ( for citizens).
1. We only draft in war time
2. Most of the poster designs are from the past, World War 2.(Not currently, we don’t just shove shit to people in times of peace)
3. Being a soilder here is voluntary and we support our soldiers
4. We don’t star war just to start war.
So, the first one. Young men 18 and older a drafted in severe war time, an act passed by Congress before being enforced. Other than that, you don’t have to join the army. Most people don’t even know much about the army in terms of fighting and war.
World War 2 was a grave threat and event to everyone...yes, America drafted, which where those poster designs come from. We needed more soldiers to protect ourselves, and those posters came out. We don’t have them posted every where, and there is no penalty for ignoring them or taking them down. Most people put them up on their own accord, to honor our army for giving up their futures for ours, or for family.
People actually have to sign up to be a solider. it’s real, look it up. They go through years of tests and training to protect their country.....of course we’d love and support them (though veterans can be treated horribly and that needs to change). We talk to them, they speak to us, you can see them out of uniform walking round town like normal people, no weapons, and people look up to them because they are inspiring and set good examples. Now, yes, every country does some creepy, unethical shit. In some countries, taking down a poster, certain clothing styles, and one wrong word can get you imprisoned or killed. America isn't like that, and the Cuban Missile Crisis terrified people (please forgive them for holding a grudge and portraying you wrongly- most people don't hold things against Cubans for their government) and it makes sense a game would play on that fear.(Maybe I sound stupid or wrong or unethical- i’m just trying to give my side of things, and if you disagree, please do so passively. I don’t want to fight anyone- I’m just pointing things out). The Hollywood shit, is in my opinion, wrong, but it is a movie, a game. We know it’s fake. We know that’s not how war works. There is no good side and no bad side. We know it’s just a image we’re set up to believe, but, we aren't forced to. There’s no punishment to disagree.
4. In America, war is taken seriously. We fight when provoked, when threatened. It isn't realistic for Congress to pass a war based on hate or race or country (almost impossible) because there’s so many people, that they can’t all be corrupt. This isn’t how the system works. I’m not going to lie - there probably are some battles and war America started without clear threat. America, though, is meant to be free. That means we have to focus on ourselves, our protection, and how we perceive the world. If someone is oppressing you - it’s wrong. We're all about revolting (Voltron I JUST GOT THAT-) and that means citizens know to an extent what is going on. But we aren’t forced to.
I do admit, America does not have the cleanest record - but we aren’t war machines. I disagree with the hatred to posters are getting. Yes, the reasons are valid, but if you don’t live in America, how do you know what it’s really like when it comes to our army? How citizens perceive them?
I don’t think so. Please note these poster designs came from a time of war and desperation. Voltron is a show about space war- of course the posters are going to use history to reflect that.
I am a citizen. This is firsthand information, and I am doing my best to remain unbiased.
