Eurovision Fact #579:

For the upcoming 2024 contest, Swedish broadcaster STV has announced a number of changes to the way Eurovision is presented and run.

First, the Big Five and the host nation will be allowed to perform their songs in full during the Semi-Finals that they are allowed to vote in. Their performances will be spliced in between the semi-final performances, but people will not be able to vote for them. The Executive Producer of Eurovision 2024, Ebba Adielsson, claims that this will allow these nations a "fairer playing field" before the Grand Final.

Additionally, voting for the Grand Final will start before the first song is performed, so people may vote as the competition runs. The last time this happened was in 2010 and 2011.

Moreover, people voting as part of the Rest of the World vote will be allowed to cast their votes for all shows "immediately after the second dress rehearsal for each Semi-Final and Grand Final has finished the previous night, and will stay open until the live shows begin."

How it works:

There is a board of players (characters). Each day, you all will vote for a character that you want eliminated; majority votes win. If there is a tie between two (or more) characters, I will announce the tie and wait a while longer for (a) tie-breaking vote(s).

- You can private message me the name of the character you want to vote.

- You can post your answer on your blog and tag me.

Rules:

- Each blog can only choose to vote for one character.

- Only choose one way of voting (Do not message, post AND reply. Only do one of the three.)

- Do not spam vote a character’s name.

- Do not hate on others for voting for a certain character.

- Do not insult the characters who have been voted out. (Only friendly teasing is acceptable.)

Eurovision Fact #202:

Today, major changes were made to the voting system for Eurovision, and they will be effective for the 2023 contest.

Now, only the viewers will be able to decide who goes to the grand final, but juries will still be present for the grand final. This decision was made to keep the show exciting and as a response to the cheating scandal of 2022.

However, jury votes will still be cast by participating juries during their respective final. But they will only be used if a valid tele-vote cannot be calculated.

Moreover, the biggest change we are seeing is the ability to vote globally for the first time. People in non participating nations will now have a say in the voting process. A full list of eligible voting countries will be posted closer to the 2023 event, and the votes will be cast on a secure online platform using a credit card from the voter's country.

The global votes will be added to scores in the Grand Final during the allocation of tele-vote points.

The 1-8, 10, 12 scoring system will still be used for all voters.

Eurovision Fact #197:

In 1971, the voting rules were altered: there had to be two jury members, one being younger than 25, and they would award 1-5 points to each song.

This created problems as juries could just refuse to give high scores. It also resulted in an uneven distribution of points. For example, Luxembourg gave out a total of 43 points while France gave 107.

The SAVE America Act would require voters to offer documents, such as a birth certificate or passport, proving their citizenship when registering to vote. It would also mandate voters show photo ID when casting a ballot and restrict where voters can register, effectively eliminating voter registration drives.
