What does our MPs voting performance look like when we analyse it by the countries they represent?
We aggregated the votes cast by our MPs in the House of Commons Chamber since the start of this Parliament by the country their constituency is part of.
Unsurprisingly England has the most votes, given it has the most MPs. As most laws for England also impact Wales, despite having only 40MPs, it has a decent voting efficiency score.
Scotland's metric is impacted somewhat by the SNPs generally followed policy of not voting on matters that only concern England & Wales.
Northern Ireland's voting efficiency is significantly impacted by the 5 MPs from the Sinn Fein Party that refuse to take up their seats in Parliament (this is called Absentionism) and thus cannot vote in the House of Commons. Even without those Sinn Fein vote however, the average for Northern Ireland is just 44%
It should be borne in mind that as there are no official attendance records kept at the House of Commons, voting in debates is one of the more (but not absolutely) accurate ways of measuring their presence in Westminster.
