I know that Picard is the diplomacy captain, but Janeway managed to establish diplomatic relations with what was basically a species of Predator expies - multiple times. Hell, she had *a truce* with *the Borg*. That's gotta count for something, right?

The victory of the United Nations in the Second World War is the single most important event in the historic struggle for universal liberation and human rights. If you share these ideals, today is as good a day as any to honor the memory of the 60 million people who sacrificed their lives for them.

By and large, that year's harvest failed. Everywhere. It was utterly, freeingly hopeless. Humanity was going to go extinct. One cannot make food out of nothing. But we had to. And we did.

I think everyone remembers that kind of ersatz-butter - it was almost tasteless, but, eating it, I could think only of love. The greatest kind of love - love for every human being. Before the war, when we saw civilization as unfathomably gigantic and powerful, it was a minute kind of affection. Seeing how fragile humanity really was, we finally understood that this love was vital to our survival.

Despite what many would like to think, it was not hope that saved us from extinction - we had to let go of it when the bombs detonated - really, it was all love. When Professor Giyata developed a method of synthesizing edible fats out of just about anything, he entertained no delusions about the future. He thought about the present - about his colleagues, compatriots, everyone else on our planet. His work, and the work of countless others across the world, saved billions and brought about the current era of universal prosperity and liberation. In this way it really is fitting that he also played such a crucial role in the reverse-engineering of the warp drive.
