I know I said I’d post all of the new beginnings pages when they were done but I’m a liar and actually want to post now. Welcome to the REAL start of Voyageclan! The pages I’ve posted so far are not being retconned out or anything, they’re just getting sandwiched between exposition pages

This was very ambitious for me! Barely any cats, lots of backgrounds. A freaking ship. An aura farming figurehead!

Checkov’s fox yaknow

So! From what I remember about the original prompt from clangen (I was not taking great notes at this time) I antagonized an intruder and he got hit by a car running away. There are no cars in this setting so I went for the closest thing to create that sudden death, which was the fox from the other scene. My take on Moreldapple winning vs the fox being bold enough to go for this cat is that this fox is very reluctant to be outnumbered. When Morel’s party backs her up, the fox runs off into the jungle but picks off this cat that it sees is actively being attacked by the other cats.

I did go back and edit the last page with the fox so that it’s heading towards the jungle instead of into the ambiguous blue void lol

One more page of this scene and I’ll take a bit of a break for Artfight!

RAAAAAH!!! I’m finally finished with this page!!! And almost done with moon zero!! I swear the day after I posted the last page I went into a flow state lining, but I could not get locked back in for coloring to save my life.

Also please please please feel free to point out if I need trigger warnings I will never be offended if you’re asking me to make other people’s experience more comfortable. I am not a tw user and have never really done a project like this so I am unsure how to handle using them, but I want to learn!

Another page! I almost redid this one when I finished because I feel incredibly “meh” about it but I remembered my goal in this blog is to have fun so I decided that it would be more fun to keep moving forward.

Captainstar, leader of Voyageclan

The more I thought about the idea of a pirate captain’s cat being the leader of the cats aboard their vessel the more I fell in love with this scruffy pirate cat. I’m very early in planning the lore and personalities of my clangen story but I have to share what I have so far for Captainstar or I’ll never move on!

Moon Zero is the first full moon following the crash of human pirate ship, The Pride of Beasts. The human captain kept a large group of cats aboard, his original and favorite cat being a lanky Maine coon tom, Scrap. As the human captain continues to add cats to his vessel, he regards Scrap as the “feline captain” and Captain Scrap takes this role seriously. One of his traits is camp keeper so I took that to mean he’s an orderly and efficient leader. On the ship, this was mostly delegating tasks like where to work on rat control, rationing out scraps, and helping translate human affairs to his crew. He is a loving leader under the gruff exterior, so he really does make decisions in the best interest of the cats under his care.

His name made me laugh but I think I thought of a good justification for it. Captain Scrap fully embraced his title of captain to the point his identity became more associated with the idea of being the captain than being Scrap. When he is visited by starclan and receives their blessing, Starclan tries to name him Scrapstar. After all, to clan cats the naming convention of your kit name (Scrap) changing with status grow makes since. To them, Captain was more in line with the suffix of a clan cats name. Well, Captain Scrap did NOT agree. He was the Captain! Returning to his crew without the title felt like Starclan had spit in the face of his history as a sea ferrying cat. Starclan understood his complaints and offered up the name Captainstar to honor who he was at his core, while still showing the clans that he was a true leader amongst clans, no longer a rogue.

Personality wise, he is boisterous, stubborn, and prideful. He throws around his weight with other cats and tends to showboat a bit. He definitely puts up a front around other clan cats. Within his clan, some of that aggressive posturing is replaces with a more familiar teasing. He’s still a pirate captain, but a good natured one that is as loyal to his crew as they are to him.

This is super ramble-y and I don’t know what else to say at this point because it will all start connecting to my ideas for the other cats, clans, and island that they shipwrecked to. I will leave it here for now. Here he is in game at Moon Two! “Is finding the role of leadership to be heavy” is perfect. I don’t think he’d admit it to anyone, but he just became a small fish when he used to be the biggest in the bowl. His cats will see the same strong captain. I wonder what the other clans see?

Oh! Last note! The space in his name is intentional! The clan cats will call him Captainstar and eventually so will Voyageclan. But early on, I imagine he still is thinking of himself as a captain and his cats as his crew. Over time, I think he will get used to the idea of clan cats and traditions. The pause in his name will get shorter as the crew of The Pride of Beasts become Voyageclan.

A new scene, a new setting, and MORE CATS. This scene comes from a border patrol prompt, but I didn’t feel it fit to call it border patrol before the cats know any borders.

I feel like this is going to be the point where I really start trusting the process in my pages. I dreaded coloring because I knew I needed to convey a jungle scene. Honestly, I am so much happier than the beach scene! I had no idea what to do in such an empty space and I think it shows. But here, I was able to just turn off my brain and work on my setting and incorporate the cats so much easier. I’m slowly learning that backgrounds aren’t evil and that they are cool actually, last year I did a few full background pieces on my TikTok for speed paints and those really helped me out here!

Anyways I’m excited that I’m keeping up with this! I’m still not fully through what I’ve decided will be my stopping point in-game for this story but I have been writing the overall story as I go and I’m hoping to give every character an arc if I can. I have decided that I will finish this scene and go back and do some prologue work that I probably needed to do before I started posting hehe :3c ya’ll get the blogging experience though.

Second prompt from clangen complete! These two were the only prompts I kept from moon zero! So we’re ready to go to moon one right??? Nope sorry! So I jumped right into the prompts because I wanted to see if I could do this, pushing through completing comic pages are something I historically give up on, but the prompt nature of clangen really helped. However, that made me completely skip exposition. So my next mission is to make a prologue to introduce the characters, setting, and situation! Then I want to round off moon zero with a few more prerequisite scenes so that Moon One is the first moon with Voyageclan formed as Voyageclan!

But before all that! Art fight!!

I have the whole next scene thumbnailed and I think I’ll start working on that asap. Afterwards I thiiiiink I’m gonna go back and do some prologue stuff to introduce the characters and setting now that I’m warmed up and have been thinking about it a lot.
