The Golden Record
| The Voyager Golden Record is a gold-plated phonograph record carried aboard both the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched in 1977, intended to communicate the story of Earth and humanity to any potential extraterrestrial civilizations that might encounter the probes in the distant future. Curated by a committee led by Carl Sagan, it contains a variety of images, sounds, and music, including natural sounds like wind and thunder, music from different cultures and eras, and spoken greetings in 55 languages. The record also includes a diagram of the hydrogen atom and pulsar timing information to help any finder locate Earth. |
