OnePlus - Worlds First Product launch in VR
Slight self promotion, as this is a project that I worked on (from strategic execution to delivery). An execution, that is designed to deliver a “keynote” to the masses in a more personal style.
Playing around with YouTube’s relatively unknown 360 video, we were able to create an experience that brought the public into the OnePlus office. To have a one on one reveal of the handset with the CEO Carl Pei.
Committed community and Media had the same experience, with a specifically designed app that was the only way to watch the video (sans scrubber bar - a nightmare in itself to do) for the first 40 mins. Then after this timeframe was over, we allowed the main link for the YouTube video to go live. Allowing anyone with a smartphone and the youtube app to experience the 360 film (and also people rolling the chrome browser on their desktop browser)
The whole project wasn’t without it’s pitfalls. Telling a story in 360 is vastly different. No way to pin the users attention to one place. In addition, there was a lot of information to cover, all of which was provided by OnePlus. Certainly not perfect. But genuinely a bold step into doing something extraordinary. Throwing the big two fingers up at the likes of apple and Samsung that continue to emulate one another with same keynote setup.
Easily my favourite brand to work on since adidas. People that are keen to cause trouble. A brand that’s determined to never settle.
