➡Message via @officialmlking3 58 years ago, my father led 250,000 people on a historic March On Washington. In front of the Lincoln Memorial, he delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, calling on the nation to rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. Today, that dream is far from realized. We live in a nation where voting rights are under attack and the voices of Black and brown Americans are being silenced. Since January, 49 states have introduced more than 400 voter suppression bills, and already as of July 2021, 30 states have enacted 18 restrictive voting laws that signal a return to the Jim Crow era. But we will not be silenced and will we not let our great nation live in a Jim Crow 2.0 era. Today, we honor my father's legacy by once again peacefully taking to the streets. With the backdrop of the Capitol building, will we demand that Congress immediately pass the John Lewis #VRAA and the #ForThePeopleAct. Together, these pieces of legislation would protect both elections and voters at the federal level, overriding discriminatory and restrictive state laws. We will not let Black and Brown voices be silenced. Today, we rise up for the #VotingRightsMarch.
