tips for people with artist friends

this goes for everyone. especially if you’re also an artist

do not critique something unless someone has explicitly asked for help. do not do it. if they do art even semi-regularly, chances are.

they likely spent hours on that part you just told them was wrong and had to give up or hate the piece. they likely ran out of mental energy to keep trying.

it’s like pointing at someone and saying “hey your teeth are crooked.”

they fucking know okay. just do not.

and regardless of if they did or didn’t know, if they didn’t ask for help, they may well be in the completely wrong mindset to make use of your point and instead just get upset.

tl;dr don’t give unrequested critique.

i love your wha winged au, it's everything i never knew i needed!! i love your choices of birds for everyone, how did you decide on them?

tbh i came up with the au and their species at 2 am under the influence of sleep meds and ive barely changed them since so its mostly just off of vibes.

cedar waxwings get drunk on fermented berries semi regularly which is very coco to me. also its not remarkable but if youve ever seen them in real life theyre somewhat fast in comparison to other songbirds their size which reminds me of her modified sylph shoes.

i knew i wanted tetia to be some kind of cockatoo for the yapping, mimicking (her thank you for your thank you loops she got stuck in with coco felt very parrot to me lol) and puzzle solving. i picked galah specifically because of the pink, yeah, but they also form giant interspecies flocks with other cockatoos and parrots.

richeh is a bowerbird cause she has a bower. satin cause blue. yes her moss cave is probably a tower type not an avenue type but listen the blue won out over the accuracy. also i know its supposed to be just the males that build bowers but im sort of just ignoring the gender norms for this series other than the physical sexual dimorphism.

burrowing owls are very family oriented evil laugh

olruggios a raven cause if youve ever met a raven in real life you know theyre only 20% cool and mysterious and 80% getting harassed by crows and having voice cracks. they also make tools (his contraptions) and they mate for life evil laugh part 2. i just went with white-necked over common because theyre mountainous which made me think of ghodrey (ignore the fact that theyre eastern and southern mountainous and ghodrey is northern its the thought that counts okay).

i havent drawn them yet cause doing anything in this heatwave will make me wanna die but if brushbuddy got birdified hed be a junco and im trying to figure out what id want qifrey to be because i want him and iguin to be the same species so i have to figure him out before i get to draw iguin flying into a window. im split between dipper (aquatic songbird), pied raven (corvus to match olruggio + the pied colour reminds me of the silverwood + theyre extinct) or albatross (waterfowl + good parents + mate for life). also i have vague ideas of what i want atwert and galga to be but im gatekeeping them until i get to draw them sorry anon asker i havent answered yet
