it has taken me literally close to three quarters of a year now to get through HALF of s11 of dw which is so sad because it used to be one of my favorite shows. i was wondering if perhaps part of the slowness was a renewed interest in maintaining the whole science/history part that was the goal when the show first started out, but i'm not sure that's it. and if is is, unfortunately the writing has suffered as has already been said here and all of the reasons everyone else has said are valid

i’m not sure, because even if a story is somewhat restricted by its theme, you can still make it good with interesting characters and a well constructed plot. an example that pops in my head is kill the moon, which had shoddy plot and moral dilemma, but excellent character writing (and acting) which imo saved the episode. and funnily enough i consider the history-heavy episodes of s11 - rosa and demons of the punjab - to be two of the best of the season, maybe in part due to the history aspect giving it gravitas and a backbone to rely on. but yeah there’s no doubt that the sad reality is s11 failed the fandom
