Character Chart - Pt 2: Vy’thanis Felbane
Dear readers, if you find this character interesting, Vy’thanis has his own blog at @felbane!
Adult. Approximately 25 years old. He was hatched in year 8 and was 14-17 when the blood elves came to Outland. It’s now year 33 according to the timeline, so he’s about 25. In practice (since Blizz’s timeline is a mess), I write him as between 20 and 40 years old.
He looks like a man who has just reached adulthood, around 18-20 years old. As a dragon, he looks like an older drake, not yet aged enough to be a full dragon. In my headcanon, it will be several decades before he takes on a full dragon shape.
Around 185 lbs. Or around 1,176 lbs. - give or take one dragon.
At 6′2″, he’s average to tall for a sin’dorei. However, he will probably grow another inch or two of height simply because he’s met so many very tall people. He can’t abide not being bigger than those around him. (In my headcanon, a dragon’s mortal form is mutable to some degree and can be permanently altered over time with conscious effort.)
Broad-shouldered and lean, he looks more like he should be swinging swords than slinging magic.
He puts some effort into looking big and strong, so his arms are well-defined and his legs leanly muscled.
As a dragon, his drake form is lean with powerful shoulders, and 8′5″ high at the shoulder.
Somewhat classically oval with a mildly squared-off chin. His cheekbones are high but rounded rather than sharp.
Though he regularly keeps a light scruff of facial hair, when he shaves, he has a dimple in his chin.
His nose is a little on the large side with a small bump interrupting the steep slope.
As a dragon, his snout has a noticeable bump in it.
Teal green, as if the blue of arcane use was never fully tainted by the green of fel. Of course, he never used fel at all, but he’s trying to blend in. If one believes there can be an eye color beneath the glow, his eyes are startlingly clear blue. His eyes as a dragon are bright arcane blue.
Rich, warm tawny brown. More than simply tan, his skin is noticeably darker than most sun-tanned elves. His dragon form has very fine scales more akin to a snake than a lizard, though his limbs are beginning to harden into a more standard dragonscale pattern; the scales are an iridescent azure with a purple lowlight gleam.
He has no tattoos and no piercings.
Thick, gnarled burn scars ring both wrists in bands about two inches wide. These scars are also present in his dragon form.
He does not know how to walk softly; his footfalls are always heavy.
His bright, cheery smile.
The everpresent scruff of black hair on his jaw. Sometimes it’s thin enough to be a shadow, sometimes it’s thick enough to be considered a proper beard, but it doesn’t grow very far up his cheeks. He usually cultivates a very short mustache to go with it.
Those broad shoulders often seem to set him apart from other spellcasters.
People who get close to him likely smell a mix of incense smoke, citrus fruit, and an indefinable dry musk.
Vyth’s hair is black with a blue and purple sheen not unlike the skin of a soap bubble or the colors of an oil slick.
His hair is thick and straight, very hearty and generous in amount; his braids are typically more than two inches in diameter.
Vyth’s hair falls to the middle of his back and is typically worn loose with the pieces around his face tucked behind his ears.
From time to time, he puts it in a ponytail if he’s wearing a hat (he likes hats).
On rare occasion, he’ll put it in a simple braid, but he’s never been spotted with his hair done in any particularly fancy style; it may be that he has no idea how.
As a writer, I am very, very much not an audio-driven person. I almost never have a voice claim or ‘sounds like’ in my head when I write a character. At best, I imagine he sounds somewhat like James McAvoy from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
If you like your men on the younger end and very cheery, he’s probably fairly handsome. Objectively, he fits most of the classical elven standards of beauty except for the bump in his nose and the proclivity towards facial hair.
He seems to have no disabilities.
From time to time, he does endure night terrors owing to his captivity by a dreadlord. He distinctly dislikes having things around his wrists.
He favors mid-thigh tunics and robes, loose trousers, and vibrant colors with eye-catching embroidery or patterns. While he’ll wear slim-cut clothing because he believes it flatters him, he prefers loose and airy; his favorite pants style is wrap-around pants that tie at the waist.
Typically, his outfits are in cool colors such as purple and blue, but he’s been known to wear orange and red once in a while.
Rarely, he can be spotted wearing button-up shirts with his slacks.
Vyth has been taught that the only jewelry he’s ‘allowed’ to have is that which was gifted to him or that he makes himself. Accordingly, he has precisely one piece of jewelry - a blue pearl on a gold chain that was gifted to him by his big sister.
He would definitely like more jewelry, but he hasn’t quite figured out that he can trade gold for shaped gold the same way he can trade gold for clothes.
