United States Senator Lisa Murkowski has represented the people of America's northernmost state for 15 years. She has Chaired the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources since 2015 and has advocated for increased attention from Washington towards the Arctic.

At last year's Assembly, First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon claimed the title "the Arctic's closest neighbour" for Scotland. In advance of the Arctic Circle Forum, "Scotland and the New North" to be held this November in Edinburgh, she is returning to Reykjavík to speak at the Arctic Circle Assembly.

Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council Okalik Eegeesiak has participated in two Arctic Circle Assemblies, as well as the 2016 Arctic Circle Greenland Forum on the economic empowerment of indigenous peoples.
Many other prominent women leaders from government, business, research, diplomacy, science, and environmental and indigenous organizations will speak at the Assembly.
The Arctic Circle highlights issues and concerns, programs, policies and projects; it provides platforms for dynamic dialogue and constructive cooperation.
While the plenary sessions are the responsibility of the Arctic Circle, the breakout sessions are organized by various participating partners in their own name and with full authority over the agenda and the choice of speakers.
