Eiw is begging Cake to let him go, but Cake refuses. Eiw doesn't want to be a fool for Cake (in love with him), but Cake wants Eiw to be his honest self (in love with him).

Eiw knows he isn't strong enough to distance himself from Cake and the heartbreak that comes with it, so he is begging Cake to let him go, to let him be free, and to allow them to grow separately now that the opportunity is there, but CAKE REFUSES! Even when Eiw turns away, Cake holds on to him and asks for reassurance that Eiw isn't leaving him ("Are you...are you going to wake me up tomorrow as usual?").

Neither breaks down until this moment. This is a moment of resignation. In this moment, it's been decided that if they are going to be in pain, they are going to be in pain together.

Eiw wants to let go because the pain of holding on is too much while Cake wants to hold on because the pain of letting go is too much.

Once again, Eiw is pleading with Cake the entire time to let him go. Eiw knows how he feels about Cake, AND CAKE KNOWS TOO. This moment shows it.

We end with the boys in separate spaces. Eiw retreats to his safe space at home with his mom where he can cry over the happy memories of them, while Cake remains on the bridge, which is symbolic of the transition he is experiencing, not just in life, but with his emotions.

Cake, too, is looking back over their friendship, but he is now seeing all the times he sought out Eiw, Eiw's touch, Eiw's warmth, Eiw's love. He has always been aware that his feelings for Eiw are more than what he feels for others, but on that bridge, alone, he is aware of what those feelings really mean now that possibility of Eiw and all the things he gives to Cake might not be there tomorrow. And that scares him.

Not because of what he might lose, but what he'll never get to experience because he just realized what he can give if given time.
