Greatness Waitress from Waitsgiving 2024! thank you so much to everyone who came out to this amazing day! -Eric
Hello friends!
Tuesday May 17th, at 7pm, please join me at the Denton, TX courthouse to celebrate the 2nd Annual Waitsgiving. I will play some songs and walk around the square with a megaphone giving a tour of the notable locations from album Waitsgiving (which just turned a year old!) Here is a facebook event link if you are into that kind of thing.
The wait is over! The 7th and most purple Fishboy album has arrived. Go stream it anywhere at http://waitsgiving.com and grab a vinyl copy on on Bandcamp Friday at https://yofishboy.bandcamp.com/album/waitsgiving
Thank you for your patience,
Eric
Yesterday I headed out to the square thinking that I’d take some goofy selfies alone in the rain and was instead met with beautiful weather and a group of 40-50 friends and fans that I’ve met through out the history of the band. It was truly a surprising and touching moment to be met with after over a year without playing shows. Thank you for coming out and letting me lead you around the town I love and missed. Folks from all over DFW, Houston, Austin, Tulsa showed up just to see what would happen. Robin and Brandon came with the first Fishboy shirt ever made, Sarah brought me homemade snocone syrup, David showed up to document (head to his account for a full video) I made everyone press the crosswalk button. We ate purple cake. We saw a cute dog from the future. Some strangers walked by, said “hey fishboy” and kept walking as if this happens all the time. I got to plug the Beatles to a group of suburban teens. So many beautiful moments packed into one night. I missed it so much. Thank you again. Let the waiting begin for next year. -❤️Eric
Every song has an origin story -- not just how it was shaped but why? What was that moment like? That's the inspiration for The Backstory
I've got a segment on the radio today for KERA/NPR around Texas where I briefly look back at the creation of Waitsgiving. It's been a crazy three years and I'm happy to be here and share. -Eric
I had a fun time on the Don't Feed the Artists podcast talking about Waitsgiving. Their topic of the day was Bandcamp so we start off by talking about my history with the site. Check it out here
Waitsgiving Countdown Day 10 Track 10: Volunteer DJ.
This song is about a local DJ at a five mile radius station. We first learn about her during the now legendary Waitsgiving Day time capsule heist (see track 9) but now get a more detailed look at her backstory.
An expert at simultaneously constructing multiple playlists in her red spiral notebook, she secretly longs for the time and money to hear everything she can.
In the second verse we find out about her favorite album: a local record released twenty years ago. Although she tracked down the band’s entire discography, she’s never been able to find a better album from this obscure group that vanished completely.
Then one night she sees the singer of the band selling his own albums at her local book store. She’s too embarrassed to approach him but carefully watches as he gets fifty dollars from the clerk (the greatness waitress!)
Later at home, she pauses her playlist writing to listen to her young child get rocked by her father in the other room. She writes a special note for her kid to someday find.
This song was meant to be more elaborate and appear earlier on the album, but after I stripped it down and moved it to piano it seemed like the perfect ending.❤️-Eric
