Wakaba Higuchi will have two new programs for next season. After landing a 3A at NHK Trophy, she will attempt one in the short and one in the free, and potentially add a second 3A to the free if possible. She will not attempt a quad.
Mai Mihara has received her new short program and is aiming for the Beijing Olympics after making her recovery from illness.
Kaori Sakamoto is working on a 4T for her free skate and is also planning to try a 3A for her short program.

Wakaba Higuchi (JPN) - Her costume! First of all! That should be ILLEGAL! It’s too BEAUTIFUL!! How dare she??? Second of all! Who said this program was bad? It is a work in progress sure but it has all the building blocks and so much of it just put a bigass smile on my face. The choreography is so quirky (great job shae lynn) and it fits her so well! There were some technical mistakes but she improves as the season goes on! She has great ambitions. You can see that she’s working on that triple axel too! Ahh! I love her so much!! Go wakababy!
Starr Andrews (USA) - who made her so adorable??? Who??? And her skating? Beautiful! Her spins were so lovely and fast! She has a lovely youthful grace and what a lovely smile too! And the costume! God! What is happening in the competition? Are they having a beauty contest too???
Sofia Del Rio (MEX) - first and only (i believe) non dress costume. Very lovely! I do love me a program where the first element isn’t a jump. And a lovely program. Her jumps were lacking but she really performed and interpreted well.
Niki Wories (NED) - okay but for real, these costumes! Where is the mandatory ugly costume? I must admit, it’s in the middle of the night and I’m getting tires but when the piano picked up, so did I. I really enjoyed the second half of the program.
Sarah Isabella Bardua (NZL) - You could really see that when she fell on the last jump she lost some confidence, but regardless, her style reminded me a lot of Rika Hongo (who i love to bits). I missed a bit of speed, but the commitment was there, and that’s important after a rough skate. And, like all the ones before her, gorgeous costume! Probably one of my favorites tonight.
Eunseo Lee (KOR) - even the last skater couldn’t bring an ugly costume. I’m expecting absolutely horrendous costumes in the free. But the program was lovely. Obviously she won’t be happy because there were a lot of technical mistakes, but the rest of it was lovely.
I know several people will strongly disagree but I will say it anyway: I firmly believe Wakaba's Skyfall is by far the absolute best Bond program in singles Figure Skating. Ever.
It's got drama, it's got feeling, it has fire, it has passion, it has soul. It's fresh, it's exciting, it's captivating.
But the best thing I just how it was clearly tailor-made for Wakaba and her style. Not to mention the unusual jumping layout, a far cry from the 3Lz/3F + 3TL combinations everybody and their mother opens their programs with, and don't get me started on the choreo!
Enjoy this achievement, Wakababy, because you damn well deserve it!
WAKABABY IS NOW A WORLD SILVER MEDALIST So proud of you!!!!
So this year I decided I wanted to do at least 1 full-color drawing a month so I could actually do one of these at the end of the year. For the first time ever, I was drawing consistently, and the practice paid off! (I actually learned what a background is?? what???) I’ve got a lot more room to grow, but I’m happy with how far I’ve come!
Flashback Friday- Wakaba Higuchi La Califfa
Being a figure skating fan is turning into me wanting to bounce judges’ heads off the table for perennially underscoring Wakaba Higuchi and shaking her confidence. She’s so good, and they just seem to hate her for some reason, and what’s worse, she knows it. And worst of all, her federation doesn’t support her, and obviously JSF isn’t going to be as in-your-face as some feds (*cough*USFS*cough*RUSFED*cough*), but what gives, man? The bias against her is so obvious by now, don’t they know it makes them look bad? Do they not even care that at this point they look weak and foolish for not fighting for their truly top-shelf skater? Agh, Wakaba just breaks my heart, she deserves better.
