Disclaimer: This is NOT a hate post, so if you have an opinion, share it with me and we can discuss it.
Hello. You may not know me, since I don’t tend to post in the tag a lot about my OCs, but let me introduce myself. I’m Walette, the only mun of this blog. I’ve noticed this since a long time ago.
There’s been a constant fight of people who treat Yui as a canon character vs. the ones who see her as a proxy, a pretty common situation for otome game fandoms. I have some opinions I want to share with everyone, being in the middle of both sides.
As you can see, in my blog, Yui is a canon character. She coexists with my OCs in the DL world, and keeps her role as the only sacrificial bride, currently living with the Sakamaki family. What came to my interest is that a certain person (which obviously, messaged me in Anonymous) told me that I didn’t appreciate my OCs, and I didn’t put my heart in actually portraying.
Why does that anon said those things to me? Because Yui existed along with my OCs.
I really don’t remember with the correct words what she told me, but here is a summary: “Why do you have an OC blog? If you like Yui that much, you should delete this one and create one for her.”
What I understood of this, is that this girl/guy/etc. thinks that OCs and Yui can’t coexists. Excuse me, but they CAN do it. Believe it or not, Yui is a canon character. She was drawn by Satoi and is the main female protagonist of the Diabolik Lovers franchise created by Rejet. She has official merchandise, has a face, a voice, a backstory, and a personality.
Call me a shitty feminist or whatever you please, but why do you all keep calling her a proxy? Not only her, but all otome game heroines? Why don’t you call Makoto Itou a proxy, too? Or why don’t you call Tomoya Okazaki, the male protagonist of Clannad, a proxy? Why do only the game heroines have that much hate that people neglect their canon role?
I’m not saying you should include Yui in your blog, because, well, we all want the boys to love us, but let me tell you something; including Yui in the DL universe, doesn’t mean she has to be shipped with any of the boys. Her main role is being the sacrificial bride, and the one with Cordelia’s heart. Nobody can change that, because it is CANON. It’s as canon as Subaru breaking walls. As canon as Teddy. As canon as Shuu loving music. As canon as Ayato’s precious red hair.
I believe a lot of people will say that I’ve got a double moral, since I am an OC blog defending Yui’s canon role. But I think that if us the OC blogs want ‘love’ and ‘respect’ from other people, we should respect not only other OCs, but Yui too. And by respect I don’t mean not saying bad things about the characters, but respecting her role in the game.
So, here’s an advice; instead of asking ourselves why people hates OC blog, let’s see what stuff we do wrong about everything. Artists and scenarios blogs are getting tired of us, guys/girls/etc. Please, don’t force artists into doing you a drawing of your OC. You can always ask them to make a drawing of your OC, and if you have the right to ask, they have the same right to say ‘No’ or ‘Yes’ without you getting mad. It’s their time, work, and effort. Drawing takes even more hours than you think, so take conscience in that.
That’s my point of view of this whole situation, and you are all free to ignore me, or kindly state your point of view.
My last words of this thing is that both Yui and OCs deserve the same love and respect, so please respect if you want to be respected.
Your OC is not a copy or an alike to Yui. Obviously, it doesn't go to big extents, since we all know that a complete opposite isn't good, too. Your story is joyful to read, since it is a new subject. I can see why your OC is loved by your Diaboy~
Yahooo! Got this for my four baes :3 You can take it too here: https://www.quotev.com/quiz/7836123/Diabolik-Lovers-OC-Originality-Test
