Cordi's actions are his main method of communication so the flip he made in actually saying the words was impressive. Add that to actions, where he also found the pieces and repaired that cup knowing what it meant. Hero. Meanwhile Geri didn't even break a sweat trying to retrieve the shirt, possible or not. Besides her having an off year hot chemistry-wise, she just really has always been careless in her actions toward friends, putting her needs first. I need to see messaging and change there.

I just don't think Geri's all that fleshed-out of a character. I don't think she's always selfish as she does frequently listen to other people's problems, but that basically seems to be her character's entire purpose. I worry about Liam going the same route this year as his only purpose seems to be the rescue (which is happening off-screen), and worrying about Stella. I suppose that's what happens when you have such a large ensemble cast, but it is something that I hope gets remedied in future episodes.

The whole episode made me so mad honestly. Liam was hurting and barely holding it together. But nobody seemed to acknowledge it and focused more on Cordell. At least that's what it seemed like to me. I wish somebody told Liam that his feelings are valid you know? The time skip was what two months. Liam isn't getting any better. It's probably why I wish Ben was in the episode. It doesn't make sense that he wasn't. He's a person that could see what was going on more clearly since he's new the family. Liam needs his support and the chance to just talk without being interrupted or shut down.

So I rewatched the episode and I got it better except for how they treated Liam (Keegan acting was so good btw). I understand everyone deals with trauma differently and I get that Cordell doesn't want to talk about it but still. I wish someone could have just told Liam : " We hear you but we're not in a position to help. Maybe go talk to a professional" Well, Bonham did but only by the end of the episode (2 months later) and in the meantime :

CORDELL: Okay, we-we... we don't need to do any of that.  LIAM: Do what?  CORDELL: Compare notes about our time in... in there. …  LIAM: Compare notes? Cordell, we need to talk about this.  CORDELL: We don't. I promise. You'll-you'll see, in time, it's better this way.

Which I think was kinda hypocrite of Cordell since he certainly knew he was gonna have a mandatory therapy? Maybe he thinks therapy is crap then?

GERI: Hey, how's... how's Liam?  CORDELL: Uh, up to him. 

LIAM: You said it would get easier... with time, not talking about it in there, but it hasn't.  CORDELL : It will, just stick with it.

ABBY: Look. We found an equilibrium around here. A... fragile one.  LIAM: Why am I not surprised?  ABBY: Sweetie...  LIAM: No, no. By all means. Let Cordell dictate how everybody else has to act just because that's what's best for him. I'm so glad that's priority. I was in there, too, you know.

And yes, I'd have appreciated a scene where he can talk about it with Ben. Not the trauma especially but how his family is handling it. I think it would have made it better.

Anyway that just me. Please feel free to discuss this and give your POV. I do love a good debate :) (stay respectful tho, I do think everyone's take on this is valid, we all come from different backgrounds and life experiences).

I realized after watching “Just Desserts” last night and thinking about it today that Cordell spends alot of time trying to please the people around him and keep the peace. I’m wondering if its something that he developed after maybe being a handful as a teenager or if he’s always been that way.  From the get go we see him worrying about being a good father after Emily dies, we see him trying to keep his mother and brother happy, we see him hearing from everyone around him how he really isn’t good enough don’t we?  The kids really get a pass because they’re kids and aren’t mature enough to see it.  Stella is very much about Stella and August has been exactly like Cordell, trying to keep the peace until it became too much and he started acting out. But Abby and Liam and Larry, his oldest family and friends seem to hold him to some invisible standard that he can’t quite keep up with. Only Bohnam seems to see the truth of most things and steps in when he needs to. 

I hope they are realizing it with this storyline they have going this season and address the fact that he tries hard for everyone but himself.

I hope we learn more about Abeline and her brother. They must've been close at one point if she named one of her sons after him. I wonder if their moms death was a factor in their distance now.

Based on the way Abby told the story, they had a tendency to fight with each other but they always found a way to smooth things over between them. They were probably better friends when they lived apart (reminds me of some of my family) but they were there for each other.

Then there was the fight the day their mother died....

I imagine it was one of those scenarios where one or both of them said something they couldn't take back and things never resolved. 20 years is a long time to go without even answering a phone call on a holiday.

It is possible that Cordell was exempted from meeting some of the qualifications for becoming a Ranger, specifically the full eight-years of civilian law enforcement service (he would need at least some leo training). However, he is old enough to have qualified in the prescribed way. No doubt his association with Stan helped and may have been instrumental in Cordell's decision to make law enforcement his career choice but very few, if any, pulled strings were needed for him to join DPS. Would Stan have had the clout in 2006 to pull any strings? Was he even a Ranger himself then?

What about James? Did he have to follow regulations?

Maybe not but I like to think he did and that he insisted touching all the bases, crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's to prove beyond doubt that he was more than just a diversity hire.

And Micki? Did she also get special treatment? We know she was a trooper for a while but she also had some years in at the Austin PD after her military service....

What about Cassie? How did she get in?

Yes, Micki got special treatment. It looks like James created a new position specifically for her since there had to be other better qualified and higher ranking DPS officers aspiring to become a regular Ranger So why did he do it? Probably for the same reason that he told Trey that why he hired Cassie was "to keep an eye on Walker". Now that leads to even bigger whys? Why does James think he needs to keep special eyes on Walker. And why did he hire Trey to "counsel" the other Rangers under his command?

Even though yes it’s probably the writers’ long plan the vibe I get from them is more of a convenient/familiarity/comfort thing. They both recently lost their partner in unexpected ways, they’re already friends, they are now the single ones in their social circle. And, let’s face it, when does Cordell have time to date between the family drama, getting kidnapped, getting framed for something, going on an off the books/unauthorized investigations? Plus his last couple dating partners have not had the best outcomes (going back jail/going on the run, getting blown up-shades of Sam!). I just don’t get that romance vibe between Cordell and Geri. I would really like to have someone new to circle who really appreciates Cordell for himself but also fits into the family.

Hopefully, if they continue with the idea of a romantic partner for Cordell, they find someone with that spark.

One thing maybe Jared wouldn't know, though he does lurk Twitter. It isn't that people don't want Cordell to have a girlfriend. Like the early years SPN crowd. Walker fans seem perfectly ok to have him have any number of girlfriends. Just for an endgame relationship, she needs to be someone pretty special to even partially fill Emily's space. And since she might never, the priority is that she thinks Cordell is special, not someone to pick at and boss around. (Reasons I loved Twyla's heart eyes)

Unfortunately, most of the Walker fans on Twitter (at least the ones I've seen), love the GerixCordell relationship, so I'm not sure if fan response is going to help there.

That's a good point about how Cordell's partner would treat them. There are plenty of people who don't give Cordell enough credit that it would be nice to have someone specifically on his side.

Nah, I think it's a symptom of the multiple traumas he's experienced throughout the years and his inability to deal with them. I think with Cordell's admission to Coop (and himself) that he needs to say goodbye to the trauma of losing Coop, he won't be seeing Young Cordell again. He still has to deal with the trauma of losing Emily, but I think that's going to continue for the entire series. Accepting her death and finally moving on without guilt or visions will be his full-circle ending.
