Designed for artists wishing to develop their visual storytelling abilities to produce graphic novels for fun and profit, and artists with specific ambitions in the field of film arts, storyboarding for animation/live action or conceptual design for animation/live action/games.
Introduction to methods and styles of sequential storytelling. Guidance in developing and acquiring skills necessary drawing skills of perspective, figure drawing, composition, design and light and shadow.
Students will be shown how to use specialized techniques and short cuts developed through thirty years experience in storyboarding and film concept design - Taught by Peter Bielicki, former Walt Disney Feature Animation Production Artist and current Professor at Sheridan College in the Bachelor of Animation Program.
Guerilla Perspective - Quick and simple techniques to design dynamic and imaginative environments such as cities, forests, mountains, seascapes and interiors, and how to populate these environments with characters.
Sculptural Drawing - Easy and direct techniques to build complex shapes such as figures, animals and vehicles using basic shapes and correct perspective.
Graphic Composition - Rapid and simple methods to arrange subject and backgrounds in a drawing to deliver maximum impact to one's audience - how to create the most captivating drawing!
Atmospheric Lighting - Simple tricks to create the most dramatic lighting for any drawing to energize one's graphic composition.
