Since the Splatoon 1 servers are been shut down and it will soon become impossible to play online within a modified Wii-U, I thought I’d take a moment to remember some of my favorite maps:
Walleye Warehouse
I loved this stage because there are these narrow side pathways that are perfect for sneaking behind enemy lines with. I liked going down them and planting squid beacons for my teammates, and they were the perfect width for my roller.
Port Mackerel
Another lengthy map. With all the shipping crates in the way, it becomes easy to sneak past your opponents and get behind them. There are also two side pathways nobody ever takes which make excellent firing vantage points from. They’re also behind enemy lines so if you get sneak past and get into them, they’re a great place to camp against your opponents.
Kelp Dome
Something about this counter clockwise designed map makes for interesting strategy. I think most people follow the map’s layout, which results in both teams on opposite sides at around the same time. Going counter clockwise feels unintentional yet results in you being able to block off your opponents better.
Moray Towers
Probably my favorite map. I love the verticality of it. I love how narrow the roads are (just the right size to rack up special points for my roller), and I love how fun it is to climb back up the opposing side. And once again, if you sneak past you could easily rack up a lot of turf points against your opponents by getting their streets while they’re busy fighting in the middle.
