how mental is your breakdown if you need pyrotechnics, a giant model airplane, foam bricks the size of coffee tables and a fucking inflatable worm that engulfs the venue for a fucking concept album about it

Rewatching Folding Ideas's video about Doug Walker's The Wall and explaining in detail just how big an impact World War 2 had on Roger Waters and suggesting how traumatic that was to his (and the other creators of the film's) generation is honestly making me think like....the COVID 19 pandemic is undoubtedly going to be the biggest collective trauma that's happened to us (as in, the generation I am in and those adjacent to it) unless like literal World War 3 happens and possibly not even then just based on how severely personal freedom was restricted during the pandemic in a way that I don't think really happens in other sources of collective trauma (like, personal freedom gets severely and traumatically restricted in places where war is Actively going on, yeah, and I don’t mean to diminish that, but I personally do think there is something a little different about everyone on the planet earth being unable to leave their homes or see their families or do anything outside their homes). Like, what are we gonna make? What are we gonna make about it ten years later? twenty? thirty? it took 30 to 40 years for Roger Waters to write what he wrote about the greatest collective trauma of his generation, and granted he obviously didn't write about World War 2 while it was happening bc he was a literal child at the time so that's why it took 40 years for him to create his (first overt) project about those events and what they meant to him personally. Like what am I gonna create? What are my colleagues gonna create? What are the people who are children now going to create about this? What are we going to get 40 years later? What child is going to grow up and write a rock opera about how the pandemic fucked with them developmentally? Can I hear their album once they write it? Do I have to be the one to write it? I'm saying these last few sentences in a lighthearted way but also I'm serious. History fuckin repeats itself, mate. Who's going to make what about this moment once it's decades away?
HEY GUYS. I KNOW THAT AMERICA'S GOIN' TO SHIT RIGHT NOW. AND THAT THINGS MAY BE PRETTY SCARY OUT THERE. TRUST ME -- I GET IT. BUT, FROM ONE GUY TO ANOTHER? WE CAN'T GIVE UP. ALRIGHT? EVEN IF IT SEEMS HARD, WE'VE ALL STILL GOT EACHOTHER. LIKE HOW CEMENT GLUES BRICKS, OUR COMPASSION MUST BIND US. WE'LL GET THROUGH THESE NEXT FEW YEARS. WE JUST GOTTA STICK TOGETHER. EVEN IF IT FEELS LIKE WE'RE BEING CRUSHED UNDER A PILE OF BRICKS, WE'LL MAKE IT OUT THE OTHER SIDE. LOVE YOU GUYS.
- THE WALL WARRIOR.
