“The Way a Dragon Gazes Upon Gold”
-dumb gay drabble incoming-
I think I despise heartbreak. I think I would fight it if I could. I hate the way heartbreak is there for a reason, and the way it pulls you back when you reach out to warm your soul. Icy, protective, right, and just- oh dear, it holds me back with all its might. It pulls into my skin, clawing and tearing me apart, in a feeble attempt at keeping me tied down to the ground, secure within its horrid grasp. For no scar it places on me with its own hands could possibly be worse, than the poison liars douse on my heart.
Though how I long, oh how I yearn, how I stay up at night dancing with myself to the stars’ symphony. I pretend that if chivalry lives, I am part of it, and there must be someone out there who sees me for how hard I work to love my best. For how trying it is to get up everyday- beaten and battered, bloody and broken. Smile, despite it all, and brandish my heart upon my sleeve. When I put genuine care into every stew I cook, every tea I brew, every leaf I prune, and every line I draw. When I try my damnedest, and it’s not enough. At the very least, tell me you see it, tell me you see how hard I try, even if I go down in flames. Greet me just once, just once with genuineness and never lie, I yearn for that golden love.
Dance with me too, under the stars, and if they may allow it, let us fly with them! Up, and away we go! Both of us, battle-worn and completely sick of fighting, let us waltz to the moon humming a tune, and forget what venom left ill our past. For one night, that’s all I ask. Look at me the way a dragon gazes upon his gold, and I’ll hold you with the might of one thousand knights. It’s okay that you’ll leave at sunrise, saunter gently over the horizon, because at least I’ll know.
You really did love me, if even for a night.
I can part ways knowing I was your light.
And you mean every second, your word I could trust.
Without a doubt, I’d be glad there was an ‘us’.
Alas, I am not the one. Perhaps, I’ll never be.
