UPDATE : Walter Mashburn has friends everywhere, at the Sheriff's Department, the Mayor's Office and [may be] A GOOD FRIEND IN THE FBI! (Red John ?)

EXCLUSIVE: Tonight, I just watched this particular scene featuring Walter Mashburn and Patrick Jane. And there is something that tipped me off which strengthens  the hint that Mashburn is or may be... Red John! 

The lines in the script go like that : 

W. M : But I'm also cunning, ruthless, and I hate to lose.

P. J : Just the kind of man that would kill a woman for rejecting him. Well, you knew Liselle was stuffed in the trunk. How?

W.M: I have a lot of friends (Red John ?) Sheriff's Department, Mayor's Office.

Mashburn tells Jane that he has friends everywhere, at the sheriff's office, the mayor's office and may be he has good links with the FBI!

And what if Walter Mashburn is Red John ? "He Is Ma..."

He is charming and eccentric. His name reminds you of wealth, power and beautiful women hanging around him. He is Walter Mashburn and he is right on the top of my Suspect Lists (that I'm building up right now)... And I have a feeling that this guy is Red John. 

In the official biography, Mashburn is described as a man who has a great bravura skill in understanding people, and define himself as a man who hate being ignored. He is cunning and ruthless at the same time. He hates the idea of "losing". And guess what ? Walter Mashburn shares these treats with another guy everybody loves..It's Red John of course.

Red John has also the ability to understand people before manipulating them and turns them into 'tools' Red John is also someone who like "publicity". This is shown in the fact RJK loves to follow TV and he hates being ignored and you know what happens when someone tries to imitate Red John or belittle him  on TV? 

During the first meeting with the C.B.I, Walter Mashburn quickly deduced that Jane is a fake medium and a fraud. Then, he mentioned that he has many wives. At least, three. In the pilot episode, the fake Red John, said that he had 12 wives. It's the link that Mashburn has something to do with Red John.

Additionally, as a boy, Mashburn ended up in reformatory because of his behavior. There, he learned how to make bombs and firecrackers and may be how to kill people, like Red John did in the Visualize farm back in 1988.

Around 1997, Walter founded Mashburn Avionics, a company of electronic components (especially in the avionic area) and hi-tech weapons. By selling it and also acquiring other companies, he became extremely wealthy. He has a large mansion in Marin County, a castle in Scotland, and other residences and properties as well as many cars, boats, helicopters and a private jet that he pilots himself. And in the first season finale, Red John hired a pilot to sky-write his smiley face above the crime scene. 

Mashburn is in love with Lisbon. When they had that one night affair, they both parted. But Mashburn needed to see Lisbon again and he wanted her badly. This explains why in the season four finale, Red John asked to bring Lisbon's head, may be as a sign of "love" for Lisbon and a sign of "friendship" for Patrick Jane.
